The Jugenddystopietrend is continuing, and I have read most of the books, I regret to say that many of them are rather average, and often I have the feeling that the writers (because men are almost never) originally wanted to write a love story, and then quickly dystopian elements have woven around it, to be the trend. Retrieved from "Across the Universe" but I've heard good things and so I wanted to finally get an idea of whether it can be up to its reputation. And what can I say - I can only agree with the hymns.
"Across the Universe" has everything you can from a Jugendystopie only wish! Anything else I criticize in Jugenddystopien was done right here: no forced action love story, but an understandable development of feelings, and you will not be left in the dark about how the company was able to develop the current itself. Secrets but there is enough on the Godspeed, and make the story really exciting. "Across the Universe" is a very successful mix of dystopia, science fiction and detective case.
Amy as outsiders who was awakened too early and is not born on the ship and raised, is located in the same position as I, as a reader - everything is new, everything is different than on Earth. People behaving strangely, all look the same and are resistant against otherness and keep Amy's stories about the soil for lies. All this makes Amy despair, because the only people who love them, they will see each other again until 50 years, when they are finally thawed. And they can not go anywhere, outside the ship walls waiting the endless, deadly universe.
But the ship itself has the size of a small town, which is divided into different areas - on an agricultural activity to another research scientists and a range remains the elders reserved. He is the leader and watching over everything and everyone.
Elder is just sixteen, but he is destined to become the next leader of the ship. A great responsibility for the boy, who can not understand many of the dogmatic rules of the elders. Since Amy is not just the only one on board at his age, but is still incredibly pretty, Elder course soon fell into it. But the looks of elders did not like, the Amy with their knowledge and their differences deems a threat.
You realize soon that something is not right on board. Why the feeder behave so strangely unfeeling? Why is unaware that there are on board also frozen earth inhabitants? And whoever kills the frozen apparently at random, and why? Although there will be a sequel to the book, the book can also be read as a single, because all questions are answered at the end.
I am completely satisfied with this Jugendystopie. The two main characters Amy and Elder seemed very lively and personable, there were many secrets that have tied me to the book and the story was very intriguing and shocking. The only tiny criticism I could install, would that I had relatively early suspect who could be behind the assassinations. And my suspicion was confirmed. However, this has taken the book none of its power, the story was captivating from start to finish.
My conclusion: "Across the Universe" is one of the few Jugenddystopien that could inspire me from the first page. Here everything was done correctly. A great setting on board a spaceship, an exciting story and thrilling two main characters. In January 2012, the successor to "A Million Suns" appear and I've already pre-ordered :-) Anyone who Jugenddystopien like, this book should have read!
