Iceland, the land of geysers and glaciers, has musically already more to offer than just Björk. Sigur Ros (in German: Victory Rose) had for the first time 2000 years made Europe as support Radiohead a furore after the four boys at the tender ages of 21 and 24 in their home in 1999, the best-verkaufendste band were. And their album "Agaetis Byrjun" (in German: a new beginning) has certainly more than deserves some attention. Based on a classic rock instrumentation, ie guitar, bass, drums, manage Sigur Ros to create incredibly delicate-looking sound paintings that seem to be transferred directly to the music sometimes the world enraptured mood of the Icelandic countryside. Besides decent keyboard carpets, strings and choral sounds this makes the song by Jan Thor Birgisson a great contribution. The texts are in fact kept completely in Icelandic or in a fantasy based on this language. This circumstance cabinets intelligibility a not so mean as the bassist Georg Pall D''Rason: "If you listen to and developed in your head a certain history, then that's exactly what the lyrics." The approach is taken by the Sigur Ros remembers most likely still on their mentors Radiohead and their last albums "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" or to bands like Godspped You Black Emperor! or the British Hood. The Britsche magazine "The Face" even spoke of "music that unfolds like perfume and higher than the heavens ascends." Expressed more soberly is "Agaetis Byrjun" the perfect soundtrack for quiet hours, making it suitable as a relaxing music in stressful times as well as any "Day After".
