I had this camera and the Canon SX50 ordered together and wanted to keep the better.
Caveat: The Fujifilm I have returned. For details, please read the following lines.
I'm here by a few categories and write a few sentences comparing and end with who won the comparison.
Processing
Both will not show any weakness. They are good in the hand and especially the SL1000 is also suitable for larger hands. It is also heavier than the SX50 and gives more the DSLR-Feeling. But when reassigning around your neck you will curse the higher weight quickly.
Service:
Basically, all the controls are well positioned. What something interferes with the SX50: the lightning you have to fold up with your finger while a better accessible button is available in the SL1000. But you get used to it.
Interesting and beneficial in SL1000 is a 2-way push the lens, but the SX50 has the lens 2 buttons for easy retrieval of an object (zoom out-zoom in, please read the instructions) and the enhanced object stabilization.
Dial, shutter release button, separate video mode button is available for both and can be operated well.
Display & Viewfinder:
Here clearly wins the SL1000. Which has both a higher-resolution display and a higher-resolution viewfinder.
In addition, the switching is to display the viewfinder automatically when you go to the eye it.
The symbols on the display / viewfinder are displayed clearly sharper and also control the images is easier.
The possibility for folding the screen is given to both. However, the display can not show so that you can make a self-portrait in the SL1000. So it can not turn toward the lens. But that is the only small flaw. Thanks to its 3-inch diagonal, it is slightly larger than the SX50 display.
Short Conclusion so far:
In previous Punken the SL1000 is clearly forward. Technically it is the better camera.
Video quality:
Here I have only made a short test videos.
The SL1000 needs a little longer to make sharp again in motion. Big difference here is that it works with 60 frames / second in full HD, while the SX50 the 24p movie format is supplied. This can have advantages and disadvantages. As everyone must know himself what he wants.
The SX50 made possible by the flexible display but a better camcorder feeling.
Photo quality
Various comparative tests in the house and outside, in the wide-angle 50x zoom and with flash and without flash have shown a total that makes better pictures, the SX50. Often we do not see it at first glance, but when you zoom into images on a PC, you can clearly see more details and less noise in the Canon!
This may have to do either with the megapixels or the SX50 has built the best image processor
12MP on the small sensor are good, 16MP must not be (you see it on the noise)
When SL1000 details are easy blurred especially in high zoom ranges and are no longer recognizable.
In a dark room or in the house where the auxiliary light is used to focus the Canon has always had his nose in front.
The Canon used a better assist illuminator (white light with a blue dot) and this seems to be much more effective.
So in the photo, autofocus accuracy and speed, the SX50 has definitely won.
Price-Performance:
The SL1000 cost about 70 euros less (stand 02.2014) and brings it the better technical values.
But in terms of results, since gaining Canon SX50.
In my opinion you should invest the 70 Euros more. What bring higher resolution in the viewfinder and display when the photos are worse in the end?
I will dispense with a score because in this the SL1000 might have even won.
My recommendation is the Canon SX50. Who does not believe me, to please make the comparison yourself and report here.
Nevertheless, 4 stars, as it provides good results, has good handling and excellent display and viewfinder has properties at a low price.
