1. Even though I'm used to use such equipment, I first wanted to change the language to "German". This was not because the device rebooted again and was again automatically set to "English".
2. Changing the internally used IP address also struck repeatedly fail because even here the router repeatedly rebooted and all settings that were made previously Vergas.
3. After I was finally able to connect to the Internet, I wanted to perform a firmware update. For this purpose, has a built-in automatic router D-Link, the appeals to the update server and downloads the latest firmware. To my amazement, my router claiming that the used version 1.21 is from the end of 2008 the latest version. Since I could not quite believe it so, I searched myself on the D-Link website and actually found a much newer version: 1:31 from January of 2010.
4. The installing new firmware is usually a breeze. Not so with the D-Link DIR-655 with currently installed 1.21. Because what I've described above happened also when trying to install the new firmware. The unit acted as if it would install the update and after a reboot welcomed me back the old version 1.21. After several attempts, I then led a factory reset (when the unit is approx. 10 seconds the Reset button on the back press) and tried again an update on what then finally succeeded.
Now running on my D-Link DIR-655 the latest firmware version 1.31 and I'm quite satisfied. All the problems mentioned above belong to the past, but the way there was rocky. It is truly an impertinence of D-Link router to deliver these with Version 1.21, because the unit is virtually useless with this firmware.
I hope for each additional buyer that on their device which is already installed 1:31. If not, I strongly recommend downloading the latest firmware for D-Link in the run and update the firmware immediately after unpacking.
