In the package is the flash, a simple cloth bag, a base, a printed Quick Start Guide (in English) and a mini-CD, which contains the detailed guidance to pdf in all possible languages.
The processing of the flash is without reproach. All the buttons are easy to use and the latching of the adjustable flash head is stable. Everything works right away as described in the manual.
Since the flash has a motorized zoom, the reflector adjusts automatically when you press the zoom on the camera. It's quick and noticeable but faint noise.
In its function as a flash on the camera uses the TTL (Through The Lens) exposure information of the camera. In order to succeed at first attempt well exposed images. You can then manually correct the exposure in 0.5 EV steps. If necessary, you can also adjust the flash permanently in 0.25 EV steps to under- or overexposure, if you like. The flash has a guide number of 33 specified for maximum zoom and 17 with diffuser for 9mm.
The flash can be also used above as a slave flash with no installation on the camera. There are two slave modes, depending on whether the camera uses Messvorblitze or not.
If the flash is aimed at interior portraits against the ceiling and uses the integrated small extendable Auffhellreflektor, you can record very well-lit images. In addition, even a simple diffuser for shooting at wide angle integrated.
The flash is pivotable but only in one direction. For portrait format images can not be indirectly flashed against the ceiling so.
A very nice detail is the battery holder. Here the 4 AA batteries are all inserted in the same orientation, and then put into the flash and firmly locked.
On the G1, there are small flaws: The built-in LED that acts as AF illuminator is not driven by the Panasonic camera. Too bad, because the AF LED to have a maximum range of 7 m and thus could afford when focusing in poor lighting situations good help. However, this is not a property of the flash, but the camera. Even the red-eye reduction, the Panasonic camera is not available. On an Olympus FT camera which also works with this flash. Obviously, the camera manufacturers would like to prefer to sell their own lightning and thus provides only rudimentary functions for other brands available.
Supplement January 15, 2011: Panasonic has informed me via email that the G1 driving in any external flash, the AF assist lamp, even with the in-house models.
The statement on the subject of Nissin goes in the same direction. The flash can AF auxiliary light, this is not driven by the 4/3 cameras.
I would highly recommend this flash fully.
