I did not know the music of Gustav Mahler (just the Larghetto in the film Death in Venice and one or two songs on France Musique). I enjoyed this fifth symphony with Pierre Boulez to chopsticks (the Larghetto is always a little tears-shoots, but still decent Boulez into pathos). Registration is very good, with a very good dynamic. The sound of the Vienna Philharmonic is exceptional.
I had the same approach with the eighth Bruckner symphony (Anton Bruckner - Symphony 8), but Anton Bruckner is to classical music what the black forest pastry is: heavy and indigestible!
