Different basic impregnation

We wanted to have a very good raincoat for a bike ride. After several good test reports and positive reviews we opted for this model in the colors "meadow" and "camo" decided.
During a bike tour the first time both jacket were used. The Jackets (same model but different colors) have behaved totally differently.
While the "Tarn" started after about 1-2 hours take the water (shoulder / arms / chest) was seen in the other jacket (meadow) hardly anything. The water was just as beads on the surface. After about 6 hours in the rain, the surface was "Tarn" wet. In the "Meadow" you could shake off almost all the water. Only on a few square centimeters, the surface was wet. The "Meadow" dried by very quickly, while the "Tarn" on the surface the next day was still wet.
It was a normal rain, it was cool 11-14 degrees, no one has sweated.

The dealer has the jacket withdrawn without objection and refunded the money. In this case CAMPZ.

Impregnation
Heavy rain or snow can wash out the impregnation of the upper material of functional jackets. Although the membrane such jackets is totally waterproof, the outer fabric is usually additionally equipped with an impregnation, so that it does not absorb water. Is the generic fabric that is wet, the breathability of the membrane is adversely affected by up to 80%. Therefore, the clothing should be re-impregnated if needed. The right time to impregnate a jacket is subsequently, at the latest came when water no longer beads on the outer fabric but a wet spot arises. The easiest way is to impregnate the clothes after washing also is - then you are always on the safe side.

But I needed to continue a raincoat and wanted to know why these jackets behave so differently. So I wrote an email to VAUDE.
Reply: Both jackets are made of different production lots. The logo was changed in the winter season 12/13. The "Meadow" is the older jacket, logo oval orbits - logo on the right chest. "Tarn" is the newer jacket without oval circumnavigation - lettering on the left chest. The material composition has not changed, both jackets were processed in the same material and the same and are both waterproof with a hydrostatic head of 20,000mm. The repelled her jacket you can improve by using a Wash-in waterproofing, eg Nikwax TX-Direct

VAUDE recommends a new jacket that should have sufficient basic impregnation eigendlich again at his own expense to impregnation. Otherwise the Händer would be responsible for the complaint.

I have the "Tarn" ordered me again, with the hope that this is now as good as the "Meadow". Since I am not quite as optimistic, I also equal to a bottle Nikwax ordered for about 16.

I can not say whether this was an isolated incident or whether there are differences but in the manufacturing process.
We'll see if other customers have had similar experiences.
