The problem is that it is a sequel. Outside there is no connection with the other volumes. It's simple, the main characters are never present. And when they are finally crossed their magical power are so powerful that they can get rid of any problem without even flinching.
There are now too great a distance between the characters and the reader. On one side of the characters so gullible they are pitiful, the other characters who are more legend than anything else.
