This new aircraft series, "Angel Wings", happens at the end of the Second World War, between India and China through the Himalayas and Burma. Rob Clower, American fighter Curtiss P40 Warhawk pilot, a little pretty boy, meets Angela Mc Cloud Dakota driver in the service of "Wasp" (woman airforce pilots Service).
Seduced by the side of the damsel inflated, it accompanies over the Himalayas in a delivery mission of a strange cargo. As might be expected, they are attacked by flying "nips" (or nibs? I misread?) But réchappent because their love story has not yet begun.
It's like being back in an early "Buck Danny" Sino-Burmese period with all the clichés of war movies Yanks: misogynistic officers, aerobatics and even a hypothetical traitor serving Japanese.
The designs are always hyper-precise, well-sketched characters, but I found the colors too dull, this certainly due to the mixture of American uniforms and brown hues of the jungle. The Himalayan pass brings some freshness in color.
While Yann scenario is credible, I felt a slight beginning of boredom in this new series. I did not find the breath of "Grand Duke" and I get the impression that the authors are beginning to turn around on autopilot.
I hope the result will contradict me.
