- Asus Tablet FHD 10 (Android 4.3)
- Samsung mobile S3 Mini
- 32GB USB 3.0 Memory Stick
- Verbatim ToughDrive 750GB external hard drive (with no extra power supply)
- 32GB SD card (from your digital camera)
I have no Apple devices, so I can use with iOS say little.
Supplied with a short USB are charging cable, a Micro-SD card adapter and contain a printed Quick Start Guide in several languages.
Charging the built-in 1810mAh battery lasts a 1 A USB charger for about two hours. On a USB port on a computer, it may take longer (especially on laptops, because often the charging current for power saving reasons limited). The charging process is indicated by the green Power LED. When the battery is full, is the flashing to steady light.
The first connection to the Android client worked immediately. On delivery, no security for the wireless connection is established. I recommend, later set up WPA2 encryption in the options. The wireless has a proper transmission power. I have tested a maximum distance of about 7m (with eye contact), because I still had a very good signal strength and good transfer rates.
The app for Android is clearly laid out and can be used intuitively to play music, photos and videos. Even copy / move data is easy to handle. This way you can quickly and easily copy images from an inserted SD card to the hard drive. However, you can still select individual files or folders.
One can the MLW221 but also a file explorer (I use the ES Explorer) use. For this you have to use 192 168 200 254 (anonymous login) in the LAN address. Similarly, one can access via this address by a Webbrowers on the device. (This option is necessary to use with iOS when DRM protected data to be reproduced).
The MLW221 can also be connected as a "bridge" with an existing WLAN. Then kan simultaneously use the data on MLW221 and surf the Internet.
NOTE: Here is the vulnerability. When you connect to a public Wi-Fi, anyone who uses this network can access readily password to the data of MLW221 or change settings! According to Kingston, however, is the "bridge" also primarily intended for use on a private network.
I tested the streaming of various data types. MP3 and FLAC are absolutely no problem. Likewise, an HD 1080 can film are reproduced on a device. But as soon as you sign a second client on MLW221, so the bandwidth is sufficient appear to stop, and the movie falters. When copying data the tablet to a USB stick connected to the MLW221 I saw a maximum data transfer rate of 2.9 MB / s. Thus, just is not enough bandwidth for two HD streams available. The parallel streaming of two SD movies and music without any problems.
I am very satisfied with the device.
