Dora Bruder / Patrick Modiano / Nobel Prize in 2014
In 1988, Modiano discovered an old newspaper of 31 December 1941 issuing a wanted notice about the young Dora Bruder who escaped December 14, 1941 of the institution where the woman resided in Paris. And it is to discover the past of this young Jewish girl on the run and minor whom he knows only the name at the outset that we will lead the author. The thread is tenuous that tracks the trace of Dora after his escape.
The survey that makes us follow the author is so precise that a police investigation for a reconstitution. But there is more emotion and there will be no reconstruction. P. Modiano will exhume all smaller traces has been able to leave the young and elusive Dora and share in an endless walk in Paris, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, places that are tinting Modiano travels over the narration of a film as a sepia effect.
This story of Patrick Modiano published in 1999 is particularly moving and input it makes work of humility as to the completeness of this research in the past:
"In writing this book, I launch calls ''
Mingles with this quest autobiographical passages dotted and the evocation of tracking down Jews from 1941 and the dark days of World War II.
Modiano's voice rises like a duty to remember the face of amnesia that threatens us with a unique style of delicacy and modesty tinged with a touch of nostalgia and melancholy.
A masterpiece.
