Even more impressive, however, is that all hard drives are recognized without problems. Whether USB sticks or external hard drives, the WD TV Live swallows everything. I myself use a rather old external Maxtor 320GB hard drive, which actually requires drivers. WD recognizes the device after about 30 seconds and sets very quickly to an index (after it is in stock).
For a month, however, I use the WD TV Live with a HDD Docking Station (Sharkoon QuickPort Pro), because I have a lot of internal SATA hard drives.
Again, amazingly, all hard drives are recognized!
The WD TV Live also has yet to act on the function of the network as a media server. Also works without problems, so I use the WD as mini NAT, because you can connect 2 external hard drives. The WD TV Live is connected via RJ45 to the switch. You can also without problems films / pictures / music, which is released on PC to stream the WD TV Live.
Of course you can look directly Youtube videos on the WD TV Live, but the search is somewhat slimmed down and mühsehlig operated. Each letter must be selected from the remote control. The process will take longer than with a keyboard from the PC, but I can think of no better implementation of this feature.
What I bemängel at Youtube function is as follows:
-stimmt the search term not perfect with the name of the video agreement, it is claimed there would be no entry in Youtube for that search term. A write error correction as the PC there is not so (yet).
-man can not Create a Favorites List without at Youtube log (which is also on the WD TV Live is possible). It would certainly be an easy video address for the WD TV Live to store on a connected media.
- You can not front Youtube Videos and rewind. That's a bit annoying, especially if you want to look at Youtube videos with a length of more than an hour and a specific location searches.
- You can only use the service Youtube, other video portals are not (yet) supported by the WD TV Live. It would support a slight eg DailyMotion, MyVideo, Veoh or Clipfish. All stream their videos in the same format as Youtube.
Conclusion:
The unit is just perfect. it does what it is supposed, is easy to use and the shortcomings of Internet functions I have listed can be easily changed by software. The WD TV Live is constantly expanding of updates, making it future-proof.
A strong buy recommendation!
