The Book
This is The Elite, the second part of the trilogy Selection by Kiera Cass. This volume was published in Harper Publishing and costs for its 323 pages 7.90 euros. It is a paperback book (paperback).
Content
In this trilogy is about the kingdom Illéa, the future America in which all people are divided into castes. In Figure 1, the Royals, 8 is the deepest and the people of the lower strata suffer grinding poverty.
The son of Prince, Maxon should now marry and to choose his future wife in the form of a competition. All the girls were allowed to apply and 35 of them were invited to the palace, among them America, a five.
From the outset, Maxon has special interest in her and throws another girl from the competition, leaving only six girls live at the beginning of this book in the palace.
America is about their feelings less secure, because it is waiting to Aspen, the love of her life, but unfortunately a six. They had a secret relationship at home but now he is as a soldier in the palace and it is constantly torn between two men back and forth.
In addition, there are difficult rivals to survive and cope with difficult diplomatic tasks.
In addition, America is not sure if the role of princess at all suits her, as many other girls appear much more delicate and ladylike, and she is more inclined to express their opinion loudly.
My Opinion
I will start with the cover, which in orange dress shows a young girl in front of a large mirror. Apart from her face (what has he just been thinking a graphic designer?) I find them beautiful. The long dress, which is mirrored seemingly thousands of times clarified the opulence of life in the palace, while across the country people starve miserably.
The idea of the book appealed to me in the first part very well. Although the principle of selection of bachelor is known by the TV show already, this brings royale head-to-head race new life into the story. None of these girls knew the luxury of the palace. But no one knew the duties and I personally liked it a lot, that participants always had to organize receptions or should support charitable projects. I am sure that the queens-be is much more than just look good.
The social criticism which is applied in this book, can be quite reflect on the present. Many people live in abject poverty with no way up, while others have not developed and innate privileges and not move away from this. The deadlocked system to be interrupted. I find it very good that such serious issues are brought into a youth book for discussion, because often this is not the case.
My only criticism is the relationship between America and Maxon in some places. It can clearly be seen that both feel a lot for each other, but they can not both agree on. So it is particularly on the part of Americas repeatedly to the fact that it closes and retreats. Other girls then scenting their chance and intervene, which makes them even angrier. Had she once she'd opened her mouth already lengthens stand with maxon at the altar. Throughout the book, this relationship turns slightly in a circle and I'm really looking forward to the resolution in the next book. How America will decide whether and Maxon's father will not tolerate at all as his wife, a very exciting storyline will result.
The language of Kiera Cass I like very much in The Elite. As in the first part I have a non-native speaker, although no problems to understand them, but realize clearly that it moves with her writing style above the level of other authors. Perhaps it is the very formal courtly life, perhaps it is even yet they used an above average number unknown to me words. This occurs to me in other books on less, but I still had to understand the book no problem.
It is written very little humorous, unique thoughts Americas made me the one time or another laugh. However, this is not a drawback for me as it rather comes to other feelings in this book and these are described impressively. The innocent budding love with all their fear, the doubts and the jealousy is described absolutely accurately.
The characters are sharp umranded and everyone seems to have a history and motives for his actions. I feel this is very important in a book!
Conclusion
At The Elite I have to complain about just little things. But the elegant and beautifully-to-read language and the characters interesting and well conceived story same this absolutely again, so I 5 of 5 stars forgive and am already looking forward to the last part.
