In the film, the music has me absolutely delighted and contributed much to the impressive atmosphere in the film, on CD, this is not quite so easy. Jackman works to a large extent with synthesizers and a lot of sound design. There are no topics or large orchestral work and everything is quite clear to support the film. In addition to various elements that match the pirate "Choose your Crew" is the composer much on dissonances and an unharmonious sound. Fast rhythms are here repeatedly interrupted by various wind instruments which is particularly apparent in the track "Second Attack". In gGegensatz to some movies the music is deliberately not kept "nice". Jackman creates a sound full of tension and eerie emotions without playing directly with the fear.
Work with the sound is extremely well done and makes the music worth listening to, even if it is strenuous and at the same time you even wishes that some times short stop off more harmony. One of the few moments of classical beauty can be found in my opinion, in the second track "Maersk Alabama" again. In the film, which is the scene for the first time in the boat leaving the port. An incredibly great Cello supported by synthesizers and a bass produced an extremely good piece. In addition to the aforementioned Action there is always absolutely minimalist places where pure underscoring is heard. Although this is at first glance not interesting but thoroughly recommended.
"High Speed Maneuvers" drives the limits of endurance to the extreme and know qualities similar to the Joker theme from The Dark Knight. Implemented Great pulls out all the stops here Jackman and rips a formally under its spell. With "Save Now" the album will be finished very harmonious and for the first time comes klasschicher orchestral sound to bear. The piece is after all very liberating and beautiful but reminds too much of the piece "Time" from Hans Zimmer's Inception score. Although this is very striking, but a good conclusion an exhausting but rewarding journey.
Conclusion: Jackman drives sound design to the extreme, creating an incredibly dense atmosphere. Stressful and very difficult to hear this score certainly for many nothing. But who dares the journey will be rewarded with some interesting elements and shows how vielfälltig the composer is. Although there is nothing to see at first glance, you will hear twice now and enter the score a chance.
