I use the system to listen to music (normally stereo, not specifically designed for 5.1, primarily rock and pop), every now and then for films and also for games, with or without surround support (various Tom Clancy games, Warcraft, various racing and strategy games). As already mentioned, the effect is in the music, especially the much better sound. From the surround effect I benefit here, of course not, but it is amazing what these boxes (well above the threshold of pain beyond not overdriven sound, but clean) and make a cranked subwoofer at a high volume. In movies and games then comes in addition of the surround effect to bear - especially the directions forward, backward, left, right and the corresponding corners are very real clearly, but also (to a lesser extent) the top and bottom. But that may be due to the particular quality of the produced or recorded signal.
In the frequency test, the X-540 has given away everything that might perceive my Although untrained, but young ear. The theoretical output volume (which has also quite practically shown) each of the four surrounding boxes located directly on the box at 125dB (about a blasting jet plane). At a distance of 4m which would still be significantly louder than the volume that you have at home, if you like loud music heard that the neighbors complain (assuming the neighbors do not complain anyway, if one coughs). The nice thing about this is that all the boxes are so directed, shall be called, in the sonicated room you get loud, presents rich and clean sound (in the adjoining rooms according to the distance between the boxes and the thickness of the walls even), up and down but no longer.
The included wired remote control provides with power button and two control knobs (master and bass) nothing special, but a standard headphone jack. The matrix effect is also nothing special - it just distributes only the incoming sound on one channel on all boxes evenly.
The cable lengths are not the Großügigste, but not too tight; the cable for the rear speakers are about 4m, the others (including remote control and power supply) is about 2m long. The remote control cable is plugged firmly into the subwoofer, all others can be extended without difficulty, whereby the cable lengths are unimportant, because extension cable for RCA connectors already exist for less than 50 cents in the meter electronics wholesale.
All in all, you get to the X-540 LOW COST surround system sufficient good for all not too demanding private users. Movies, games and music can thus enjoy much better. Despite minor criticisms (no special settings, eg ups and downs, matrix effect in the description aufgepusht, only wired remote control) for the all-round good experience 5 star.
