First of all it must be said: Fergie has an incredible, I repeat (for unbelievers): incredible voice. Defeated at BEP far below value, it shows here - even years before the vocally powerful "Beautiful Dangerous" from / with Slash - what organ it can do: from dramatic ("Here I Come") to vulnerable (the mega-hit "Big Girls Do not Cry ") in such a wonderfully confident-boastful hip-hop as in" Fergalicious "to quiet, contemplative in" Losing My Ground ": the lady hats on it.
And: You can also compose, the Duchess - namely emerged with the help of all kinds of friends, wearing this album yet clear handwriting of the Amazone.
And that's good: so, and only so nowadays emancipated artist and "make Their Own Thing", emerging from the overpowering shadow of a supergroup out to make a name for himself. Again Lauryn Hill: a superstar with the "Fugees" - an idol, a brand only after the own grand debut.
Especially the combination of voice, personality and titles makes here the appeal made: despite some weaker tracks (for me clearly the hit single "Big Girls Do not Cry", something familiar-average) delivers here a convincing performance from that lust wanting more.
Hint: Of course, the masher "London Bridge" as "Fergalicious"; "Clumsy", the update of an old soul classic, incredibly easy (and totally frivolous); "Here I Come", grandiose cover full Sebstbewusstsein; the ska-punk-reggae-combination "Mary Jane Shoes" full of sparkling inspiration; "Get Your Hands Up", which anticipates some Beyoncé- and Shakira hits.
A very, very good album, an outstanding debut. Surprisingly adult, almost mature.
2011 is the successor to come - I'm looking forward!
