There are hip hop and there are curses hot Hip Hop. Unfortunately, I find very many newer hip hop productions rather shit, so if you expected from this review that I funny references from his pocket draw here under the motto: "In something like the new album of XY", which will certainly be disappointed, because I know, of course, not very many Underground Rapper the present time it might do better than the Kollegahs I quote so. Who wants to give me some nice tips here: Please be sure to leave me a comment, I am willing to expand my horizons !!! Instead, I of course do not want to explain all unsarkastisch something I loved to such a cult albums like "The Low End Theory" and what I to newer hip-hop often miss, so why everything was better.
The disc is not exactly famous for its storytelling, the lyrics move "Across-rap-rap", so I would have seen the contents of the songs somehow find stupid often in the range of, but I find it a certain intelligence and reflection on the world I miss eg at the certainly technically worn but contents completely hollow Kollegah. A Tribe Called Quest, but were then part of the Native Tongues Posse, a loose coalition of rappers from the NYC scene that can be seen as an alternative to Ganstarap quasi. Whether the comparison with moderns gangsta rap is therefore at all important, is contentious. Other Roots and traditions precisely. The rap this group entspring rather an intellectual middle class as the ghetto, and so some of the elements are held almost philosophically or politically and contained many literary and other cross-references that have more to do with the Black Panthers as the Crips and Bloods.
Musically, here especially one very crucial: Samples! Now, it is unfortunately now so that samples have become a relatively expensive proposition and many producers make their beats now completely electronically. Personally, I find that astounding bland and sometimes annoying. Somehow I have the feeling that you indeed earlier not know much about music theory or even the ability needed to play an instrument as a hip hopper, but was able to offset this by fine sampling good musicians (from jazz as ATCQ example). Today we have a musician in the hip hop scene per se does not necessarily have to be a musician, and by billigster plug-ins and software quite simple and sometimes build too damn stupid Melodies and Beats, who have lost any claim. This is of course in a music which indeed lives mainly from the texts rather unimportant but even lyrically many people today just do not really know what to say except "I have the fattest" and "I get Moneeeey oooh". Unfortunately, the exceptions are usually sown very scarce and often not very successful.
I see "The Low End Theory" Therefore, as a kind of textbook on how to make damn hot hip hop which, although quite suitable party is (though a bit "to schlurfig") but exudes class and a minimum level of intelligence. I hereby would like to call the Hip Hop again to be regarded as a descendant of the funk and jazz and no longer to support this Euro Beat-shit!
