I have two Harmony One from almost their release, ie 2007-2008. Unfortunately, one of them had a problem recently, the "Off" button is released, so I can return to a neutral mode. So I was trying to replace it with a new model, so better .... A priori only.
In absolute terms, the Touch like all Harmony is a great product when we got used to the "gizmo" programming (I struggle to call it software) and that is well mastered the concept of activities and all possible settings. The problem comes from the comparison with the old model (almost 7 years) that is the One. If I consider the annoying differences, they are many:
- Key Position "VCR" on the top: It's a crazy idea and I have a lot of trouble to see the justification. So that when we have the Touch under control, we must drag down to be able to operate these buttons, or use both hands. Besides that passage, it is likely to touch the touch screen and activate unannounced controls (*).
- Touch Keypad: Enter a figure ok. In type two away fast enough it is a sport. By typing three to reach a channel on a satellite decoder box or it is an impossible challenge to hold.
- Scrolling on the high-low touch screen and right-left is dicey, even for a regular user of smartphone. I've never launched so many unwanted activities.
- Dynamic position of the devices in the list depending on the activity (The devices used by the activity are repatriated top the list really we realize its worth when we do more..
- Favorites (favorite channel icons with their logos): On the old (The One), one could define 4 page 6 favorites, 24 only (many have moaned against this limitation), but for each activity involving a change of chains. On the news, we can define a virtually unlimited number of favorites, but for one "operator" (ie Freeview or satellite, or ISP, etc.), and these favorites are available for the activity relating to this operator. What is paradoxical is that with the One I'm almost never used, finding that type the number of the desired channel on the key pad it was quicker than searching its logo in the four pages. But here they are almost indispensable and often does not have them! Go figure.
- Last finding dated, autonomy. My One lasted over a week, the Touch 2-3 days for the same use. All the more so on the old battery change is immediate via a hatch on the Touch is impossible unless it apart.
In short, it is at a point where I always keep my One nearby. I sync the two on the same activity and I use the One. So owners of a One tired, try to find one used in good condition.
(*) There is a touch on the standby screen with the lock feature to prevent accidental hit (like so). The problem is that every time one needs a touch control screen is locked, you have to drag your finger from left to right to unlock it, which often requires them to resume more times. It is quite tedious.
