The Pilgrims Yssel is a book that is readable without any particular difficulty.
The plot is fairly basic in the matter (difficult political context between several duchies) but I was very surprised when I read not to feel that feeling of deja vu as has happened to me with many titles. No raised eyebrow, no sigh of exasperation.
This novel has an identity of its own and the fact that nothing has made me think of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, for example, is a big bravo to the author.
If you embark on this reading, I greatly hope, do not expect to have an action-packed narrative because you will be disappointed. Everything is done slowly but without that being heavy and unbearable final to follow because, despite everything, there's a lot of things in these pages.
Linden Oliver perfectly masters:
- The universe that we learn to know
- The characters so appealing
- The mythology that surprised me in many ways.
It is clear that with a tricky start to fully enter this world composed of humans and half-elves, after a hundred pages I was caught in the toils of the author and for nothing The world I would not have come out.
I let myself be drawn in the heart of the Kingdom of Abhorn where I found a young woman seeking as a person and want to show what it is worth (Elvira), a man with a need to change things (Haert ), a hateful wife (Kathryn), first-knights who made me literally melt (Brilliant assigned to Elvira and Princess Karesh assigned to the Prince-serving Haert).
The history of the Kingdom of Abhorn is just excellent to discover both his past with the famous Ladies of the IJssel including MOEVA commander that we will follow throughout this book, in the hopes of changing some things Haert which will not please his younger sister Elvira.
But the most brilliant for this new series indisputably remains half-elves or lunarels appearing here. Linden Oliver was able to appropriate these beings existed in fantasy while adding features that I had not seen before. Moreover, I am still very excited by what I discovered in this first volume and I'm sure not to be the end of my surprises. I have so many questions I want answers that, inevitably, I will be widely distributed to read more I look forward.
I wanted to describe each character a bit to give you even more eager to read this excellent first book Pilgrims Yssel but ultimately I do not do it. The only thing I can tell you is that they are very surprising ...
Discover this book without too out above is to enter a world of legends, betrayals and envy to exist whatever the cost.
This is not yet another medieval fantasy series; it's much more than that and it is really worth, you are keen on fantasy or neophyte in this area, to linger on: the frame is simple yet complex enough to allow an informed reader full of questions, the characters are engaging and full of mystery and the author's pen is smooth and captivating. It is impossible to get out when all is so well done and mastered.
I say: Bring on!
