The device has some gained weight and overweight since version 1 but it is not enough to make me regret therefore the first.
The image quality is about the same, I did some comparative tests between the M1 and M3, under the same conditions and with the same settings, the sharpness is best on the M3 on a crop (I compared on a 100% expansion with 2 devices on the same terms), I think it's Bionz processing X makes a sharper detail.
the zoom is a little tight but it does not bother me more than that, for the type of picture I want to do anyway. Under certain conditions (party school of my children), the RX100 was already too short zoom, in this type of situation to the limit, it is better to have another device altogether with a large zoom even if it has not the qualities of the RX100.
The small viewfinder works very well, his only fault already decried in most forums that talk about it, is that the camera turns off when you close the viewfinder, or close the viewfinder does not mean necessarily want to turn off the device, it is hoped that an update will correct this problem.
Unlike the RX100, you must eject the flash to use it, which is pretty good.
The picture quality is really outstanding, but it was already the case of RX100, by contrast, low light photos are best with the M3. The bokeh has a better record that the M1 f1.8
It is especially at the close-up the difference with the M1 is very clear. With the M1, I had great difficulty in making a correct focus on a very close shot, with the M3, it is very clear, close-ups are better and the autofocus works perfectly well.
Connectivity side, the device connects without any concern with ipad / iphone with sony free app on the appstore, downloading pictures is very fast, even in its original size (you can also choose to download a size little lighter). It also connects without any difficulty WiFi with my TV, but it's also a sony therefore the perfect wedding;) however on mac, I did not find how to connect to wifi, the software works with Mac OS 10.9.4 but you must connect the device via USB, I have not yet found whether it is possible or not to connect to WiFi.
I have not really tested the video.
In summary, I am pleased with my purchase and I let my RX100 with some regret anyway because this gem followed me everywhere, but his replacement exceeds the widely.
His only problem is the price, and of course for that price, it was a good SLR but the reflex often goes out for special occasions while my RX100 follows me around every day. I love this camera;)
The least (yes there are):
- The battery can not long compared to the 1st of the series. It was clear in most sites that I read about this device and it is unfortunately true, the battery discharges more quickly. Please allow extra battery.
- No external charger, as is the case elsewhere on all Sony cameras for 2 or 3 years.
- The camera turns off when coming back the viewfinder (already mentioned in my review)
- Its price, although seen its assets, we can say it was worth the money.
- Weight, still a little heavy for a device that holds in one hand. We still feel the difference with the model 1, which is less felt.
The lack of grip seems to bother many people but personally it never bothered me or on version 1 or on that one. I put him strap in case but he never escaped from the hands and I find quite good grip. It does not slip on my fingers and not moving.
