My priority purchase criteria were:
1) a compact camera that fits in your pocket
2) good to very good image quality, so you can create photo books
3) a reasonable focal length in order to photograph all optimally
I am informed as ever on the Internet, in journals, at shops and friends / colleagues.
In my shortlisted still cameras from other manufacturers came. Some were too heavy and too big, others are not processed as well, more did not provide the desired image quality. For the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ36 I decided after careful consideration, because it corresponds to my Anfordrungen most.
The camera is compact, has a high-quality Leica lens, a robust metal housing, a focal length of 24 mm wide angle to 480 mm telephoto and an easy-to-use menu, which you can still reasonably well recognize without reading glasses.
The first pictures were taken and tried out the functions of the camera. If you have learned once the settings to match the shooting situations are the right ones, you achieved a very good image quality.
I took the camera to a home game of basketball from Phoenix Hagen in the Enervie Arena. That was the first real test. Although the pitch was 20 meters, I was able to make excellent, image-filling close-ups of the players with the 20x optical zoom and image stabilizer. The video function was used and what I expected.
I am completely satisfied with the Panasonic Lumix TZ36 DMZ and can recommend buying.
