Extremely varied in detail but little memorable

In the field of electronic music, there now seems to be walk and add, EP to publish EP until then sometime sometimes pops out a real album. Knife Party have already made a name with its three EPs and various remixes and convinced by a skilful mix of dubstep and House. What works in EP-term, however, can in album length quickly become boring and so the production duo has had early announced that the album a much broader genre spectrum than even the Extended Plays gets donated what was also confirmed in the songs pre-release. Now the long-awaited and previously shifted album is finally on the market to meet the high expectations but the fanbase.

Anticipation can be first to confirm that Rob Swire respect. The diversity of the album not promised too much. From typical Knife Party dubstep / house sound through Trap and techno to correct dance numbers really represent anything, but being dominated House (I beg your pardon if I did not hammer out certain genre assignments properly). At this point it is important to mention that just is rarely heard on this album the typical Knife Party sound. That no one wants to do always the same music, of course, is understandable, but to go forward to the debut album such a radical step, is really daring. And as much as I welcome the wealth of variety on a CD, so I have to confess that is the great weakness of the album right here. It works as a complete work, but only a very few songs I get the urge, they sometimes separately from the rest to hear. I miss the one hand, the style of music that had ever made me Knife Party heard, on the other hand it lacks most of the songs simply MMN according to brand recognition (I have deliberately avoided the word earwig suitability).

The intro starts Reconnect still promising, but already with the House-heavy resistance I had my problems. Somehow I lack that certain something, this urge in the main melody with his head mitzuwippen. The trap number Boss fashion that was as well as the previous song already published in advance, reaped many fans already much malice and surprisingly me this song has yet convinced. In the long run I could not listen to that style well, but in between the song is really funny. EDM trend Machine (with vocals by Bryn Christopher) falls within the range Deep House and maybe I can not do much with the genre easy, but for me is good for listening only to the way the song. 404 represents for me the first highlight is a gloomy dubstep / house track in the style of EDM Death Machine (Haunted House EP). When Begin Again heard Rob Swire sing again and although it is quite nice to listen to, not really stuck with me some of the song and you end up again hear quite well in the category for passing. Give It Up is my Favorist Album. The song reminds partly a bit too much like Bonfire, but this groovy melodic drop is exactly what I was to Knife Party guess so. DIMH is an electro-house-number, which is similar happened to me like Begin Again. Micro penis is a little minimalist POLITICAL techno song I would not describe as beautiful, but it suffers from the same problem, even though the sample at the beginning is really funny. In the dance number Superstar (back vocals by Bryn Christopher) it looks similar, only the final makes an interesting twist towards trance ala Infected Mushroom. The enriched with oriental sounds Red Dawn on the other hand it creates again to awaken in me the urge to toe-tapping and represents my third highlight of the CD. Kaleidoscope is indeed structurally actually a full song, but actually rather outro character and if you it considered so, I think it's also very well done.

Important to mention is still that, although I hear various electronic genres, most commitments in respective but only selected artist, and me any Genremixturen particularly. That's why I had found pleasure in Knife Party. Abandon Ship is expected to be strong taste and this review should not be seen as strictly non-recommendation, but only advise against a blind purchase. Especially the Knife Party fans is particularly committed to a pre-listening heart.

Conclusion:
Abandon Ship is particularly varied and works in overall consideration entirely. Unfortunately, the songs are, considered most little memorable and the album degenerates as CD, which can be good way to hear and is only a few places at the right listening. Due to the variety of genres and the resulting taste dependence but one should be immediately put off and Abandon Ship easy probehören times.
