In use, I had been side by side the ST 5 Racer Brooks and Asics Gel Hyperspeed 5 models, Gel Fuji Racer 2 and Gel 1170th
Styling and fit:
---------------------
One sees immediately that it is this is a running shoe that is designed purely to the fast pace running. Compared to some other Asics models (z. B. Gel Pulse 4 or Gel Nimbus 14) of the shoe is slightly narrower cut, but provides for a Normal Foot still enough space. The shoe fits comfortably on the foot without slipping, not suppressed, but leaves enough room to move.
Size choice:
-----------
For my circumstances (in everyday size 43 or 44) I have also with this Asics shoe model again chosen size 44.5 and deck so properly. One should enter the shoes but quite a bit, because this then something wide and adapt to the foot well.
Details:
--------
thin EVA insole, GEL elements, 3M reflectors, AHAR +, Wet-Grip outsole, but not SPEVA midsole
EVA insole:
-----------------
The insole is, in comparison. B. for Gel Pulse 4 or gel in 1170 just in the forefoot substantially thinner and therefore lighter, so that saves overall weight of the shoe. Nevertheless, the insole provides lightweight cushioning. You can also run the shoe but without the insole, has more space, but a much harder line when stepping on the ground.
The insole can indeed exchange against other models. But you could tell that it fits to this model is best. And greater thicknesses other insoles take away space and cause a pressing on the foot and the upper of the shoe.
Color variations:
----------------
(Blue / orange / lime green), (neon green / white / blue)
I have 2 pairs of shoes the color (blue / orange / neon green). But the styling and the color I liked both versions, real eye-catchers are the colors look in Natura made even more intense and luminous and convey a certain dynamic.
Laces:
-------------
Discreetly maintained in the shoe color and not as striking as such. As the DS 18 Racer.
Negatives: The laces come very shortly. A loop can be just as still binding. Would possibly longer spare laces or a triathlon use quick lacing.
Cushioning:
---------
Damping in rear foot with a small gel pad and a further dampening thin EVA sockliner to reduce weight. Nevertheless has a fairly direct contact with the ground just at fast pace runs and for the shoe is yes.
For distances over 12 15 kilometers, I think the shoe with a moderate runner (as I am) attenuated too weak. For distances up to 15 km, the attenuation is sufficient. The shoe can also run on flat stone and poor forest roads.
Pronation:
-----------------
But has no pronation is absolutely ok and without laufbar.
Sole:
------
The shoe is not an allrounder. It is mainly used for asphalt and tartan track, possibly for stone, root poor and designed level forest soils. Dirt roads should be avoided.
The shoe can be run dry and wet. The sole is sufficient grip.
Through the openings in the sole sufficiently circulates air in the shoe and also avoids too much perspiration. Penetrated moisture is transported through the openings quickly to the outside.
However, it may also come through the same holes on the running track when humidity is to water ingress!
Price:
------
EIA costs around 100, -. Was to me then (April 2013 too expensive). But recently saw 2 suppliers who have offered the shoe for 44.79 or 45.38. Have slammed in this bargain and equal ordered 2 pair.
Summary / Conclusion:
------------------------
+ Comfortable fit like a glove
+ Modern design and cool color palette
+ Sufficient attenuation
+ Adequate ventilation and drainage over sole and upper
+ Real Racer
Disadvantages:
- Extremely short laces
- On the sole can cause water leaks
For me, outweigh the benefits, I feel in the shoes well. Use it in addition to the slightly heavier but more comfortable for Brooks-ST 5 Racer for short distances or fast runs to 10 kilometers on the tartan track for distances up to 10,000 m.
The Hyper Speed weighs less than 200 grams, making it lighter than the Noosa Tri Asics, but still offers a gel cushioning in the heel. For fleet training as suitable as for road races or triathletes. Rewarding from a pace of 4:30 min / km. Very light, tight, narrow strips needed and only as much as absolutely damping. The Asics model is a thoroughbred racing shoe for runners who spend part of their training on plastic sheets. The shorter the distance, the more likely it can exploit its strengths.
From me a recommendation for light to medium weight runners for fast tempo runs.
