++ Functionality
My goal is to use the device as possible mulitfunktional, was fully met. The extra buttons to copy (print job Create) and PDF creation are great!
+ Scan quality
The scan quality is sufficient for my purposes absolutely! As I said, I scan slides and negatives, which I did 30 years ago with a film camera. In particular, the negatives are very good, the slides are a bit blurred, but they also have "suffered" real (badly stored). The dust removal "ICE" is working properly!
+ Software
For my needs very well and after a brief orientation (absolute beginners scan) can be operated intuitively. 4 different modes to limit the number of possible settings, and the automatic image correction is sufficient for my purposes. (I often use the "Color Restoration" and sometimes the "Backlight Correction"
The boundaries of the separate images into negatives are very well recognized, with my framed slides, however, only 50%, here I have to correct, but this is very easy to scan the area then.
0 / + speed
During film scanning an image requires about 5min (with dust removal). That's not fast, but written much faster than in some tests to film scanners.
However, let me say that the scanning of slides and negatives is a time-consuming procedure. Due to the narrow light unit only 4 mounted slides a one train can still be scanned. The slides are placed (from the film holder positioned) on the glass plate. Negative (or unframed Filmstrip) to go faster, it can be processed at one time 2 strips, ie about 10-12 photos.
- Green Stripes
In forums and here was already of the "green stripes" reported. Yet though fortunately only 2x - Unfortunately I could the phenomenon already observed. It is a very fine vertical green line, which goes to the same place throughout the scanned image. If it occurs, it affects all further scans. So far I could get away it again: The first time I just scanned the empty pad, the other time I started the scanner. It seems a problem with the calibration to be (and hopefully no pixel errors).
- Software Installation
Which has led me very beginning astray and cost time and nerves. Attached is an installation CD. Since my computer but has no CD drive, but I downloaded and installed from the Support page, the software "EPSON Scan" together with drivers. The scanner funktioneirt then also fine, but not the above-mentioned function keys (PDF, copying, etc ..). As a guide only a few icons were in the process described symbolically, that you should install the CD first and then connect the scanner.
After several (re) installation of the drivers and fruitless search Forums I then connected an external CD drive and the installation carried out on the new CD. Here, the user is guided with good explanations by the installation. However, this will take extremely long (> 15 minutes), sometimes takes more than a minute and no more than once I had the impression that the computer had hung or the CD would not be readable. But finally did bring me the success message and all (the buttons) worked!
The reason for the non-functioning of the function keys, the software was "Epson Event Manager", which was installed during the installation CD, but missing on the website.
For incomprehensible why the installation package will not be offered on the website to download. The work that is properly (except that it takes a long time), provides good explanations and installed serving as components that work behind everything.
