Feiner indie pop without great moments

Civilian (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Makes it easy Wye Oak listeners of her album "Civilian" not necessarily. Too brittle is the music of the duo from Baltimore, to find them well right away. Lovely moments alternate with outbursts from bulky, especially good to hear on "Holy Holy" and "Plains". Nevertheless, the plate, the third of Jenn Wasner, who always sounds a bit like a male indie singers, and Andy Stack, some great moments. Only one jump is not the face.
The title track "Civilian" progresses from gentle indie pop to full blown rock song with a lot of distorted guitars. The hypnotic piece "Fish" has a wonderful pre-chorus. "Hot as Day" is like the little brother of a really great pop songs. And "We Were Wealth" is of particular interest especially by the reduced instrumentation, the redeemed lecture.
The really big hit is "Civilian" not debatable is whether I take it again from the drive cabinet. But missing the great moments. But a small, elegant, easy verhuschtes indie pop album Wye Oak here already succeeded.
