The Winter of Mixed Drinks (Audio CD)

Customer Review

When is a man a man? This question already once stood Herbert Grönemeyer and made a song out of it. The Scottish indie pop quintet Frightened Rabbit to songwriter Scott Hutchison does not leave it. They make an entire album around the theme. And deliver pop anthems that will radiate over the year 2010, that's for sure.
You do not know where to begin, so great is "The Winter of Mixed Drinks", the third album by the band. As would be the one of course the obvious Gassenhauer that going forward, "Nothing Like You" and the equally driving "Living in Colour". But the board has even more to offer.
Some songs unfold over time their class, because the great melodies hiding a little behind the times arg thickly applied productions. The opening track "Things" as initially has only echoed guitar sounds and the voice Hutchinson. Gradually, the tension builds up, more and more instruments are added - and even if the song fizzles at the end a little in opulence, it does make you want more. "Skip the Youth", with almost six and a half minutes the longest song of the plate makes it similar. Only after 105 seconds musical noise salvation comes in the form of a really great songs.
Only "Man / Bag of Sand", which is no more than an interlude to understand and perhaps a little too tame bouncer "Yes, I Would" prevent the board convinced 100 percent. But a bit of room for improvement must indeed remain.
