Now emerges Robbie Robertson, surprising to me, but even with its own album. The last, that bore his name, after all, already comes also from 1998. How to become a clairvoyant? On the cover Robertson embodies rather the pessimists. Dressed in raincoat with attached hood and sunglasses, he seems not quite to trust the future.
The texts are in accordance with melancholic and spread a mood, like in the old blues.
One mans trash is another mans treasure
One mans pain is another mans pleasure
play too hard play too rough
And someday someone's gonna call your bluff
from: The Right Mistake ... and among them is: For Thelonius
Musically versa Robertson again to simpler structures of rock music and the Blues back. The sessions were accompanied by Eric Clapton, who also must raise our voices in song Fear Of Falling itself. Another constant billden Pino Palladino on bass and Ian Thomas on drums, the rhythm section. Other renowned musical guests are Steve Winwood, Tom Morello and Trent Reznor.
Initially, the collaboration with Eric Clapton was the exchange of musical impressions, as Robertson thought he had recognized with Clapton vergleicbare experiences. They wanted to discover unfinished song ideas and see if this could be developed from something in common. The Deluxe Disc represents this process. It is in fact so-called 5. Songwriting version, so early concepts of songs later used on the album. One could also say this probably simply demo versions. As 6th track is with Houdini still an outtake from the recording sessions to hear the addresses the Entfesselungs- and magician.
After a long dry spell once again a very good album by Robbie Robertson.
