The Gathering seem anno 2012 to place further emphasis on engaging moods and elegant timbre, where the predecessor was designed relatively straightforward - but without that song degenerated into pure sound carpets. The band knows namely what is important. And on beautiful melodies, which at first might seem a little pushy, but then quickly develop their fascination.
Even anno 2012 Sailing The Gathering so again very skillfully between genres. While some almost like a dreamy pop song acts (Paper waves), one has sweeping on the other trip-rock (I Can See For Miles) or a varied Epic (Heroes for Ghosts), to some post-rock band could be envious , The band can also always her penchant for analog circuitry to shine through. String sounds and even let the multiple integration of a leading trumpet sit up when the band lets their imagination run wild.
But is holding together the biggest blessing for ears of all the vocals. While you had to get used to at The West Pole still at it (which was not so difficult), Silje Wergeland seems now definitively incorporated as an integral part of the band. The Norwergerin acting very confidently and, with her bright voice for one or the other creeps. She is also less intrusive than its predecessor.
One could write so much about this board and would you therefore probably do not do justice. That's why only this: listen, enjoy and find that this is one of the best albums of The Gathering!
