Wortmann Terra LCD / LED / TV 4260 107cm / 42 "Piano Black 3031173 (Electronics)

Customer Review

Wortmann AG from Hüllhorst has focused its otherwise rather in the B2B segment, where it sells, among other things servers, PCs and laptops. New large display portfolio are now bred flat-screen TV, their larger specimen 4260 with 107cm (42 ") diagonal, I recently treated myself.
Input should be noted that I operate the device so far related only to a receiver via HDMI Entertain and a somewhat elderly DVD players (via SCART). Some features (eg, the DVB-T tuner) I can therefore make no statement.
The device comes in a sumptuous box and therefore may be out of the box quite impressive: Noble piano black finish paired with an elegant orange (standby) or blue (operation) LED luminous ring make directly below the display quite what her. On the right back of the TV leads to the mechanical on / off switch, which can be reached a little fiddly. Strange detail: the label with type designation and serial number hold not very good on the rough plastic surface and slip easily. The one sees not, but who eventually decided to apply the (24-month) warranty claim, the label should perhaps attach additional or equal to stick to the manual, so they will not get lost. The latter, incidentally multilingual and written in some very adventurous grammar. One understands but always what is meant, and all the functions of TV and remote control, it will be explained in detail. The warranty of the device can be extended by a Bring-in on a pickup service manufacturer for little money. Given to the already lush dimensions of the package might not be a bad idea.
Now for commissioning. Connections, the device offers plenty of that 5 HDMI and 2 SCART inputs should actually be enough for all eventualities. HDMI 1 is reserved for the connection of PCs, the receiver puts it thus in one of the ports 2-4. My "Stone Age" DVD player from Philips took place at one of the Scart inputs.
As with almost every new TV you do even bother to optimize the image. Say, down screws contrast and color at normal levels, reduce noise filter ... The settings for this are the way stored separately for each input, so you can turn up to HDMI3 the colors for the Playstation neat example and to HDMI2 for the TV playback but normal skin tones receives.
Reward for their efforts is for people like me, who have struggled so far with a 82cm-tube TVs, an impressive image. Especially HD broadcasts act thanks to Full HD resolution knack sharp and detailed. The 100Hz technology ensures smooth motion of what works well. "Good" is not perfect, however: From time to time, especially in busy scenes or with such high contrast change, there are recognizable micro-stuttering. However, this happens rarely and has not been bothersome to me. There is also a visible Soap effect, even this does not occur so much in the foreground that it would be unduly disruptive. But the tastes and sensibilities are here different, please arrange a trial look in doubt itself. The reaction time of the panel also seems to be good average. In some (especially dark) scenes some tightening, however, in spite of switched off noise filter, perceptible, ie movements are blurred and "streaky".
Bottom line, I can not complain yet about the image. All of the above points do not fall so much weight that they act overly disruptive to the viewing experience. Above all, the presentation itself is impeccable: Beautiful, rich colors, a subjectively very good black level (OK, the course was in my tube TV not great) and the anti-glare / matte surface of the display make for great pictures. The only downer in this direction: The LED-backlit displays slight clouding. The 4 corners are recognizable bright, and during prolonged operation to further develop areas with slightly elevated brightness. Apparently, increases the effect as soon as the device gets warmer - According to various forums which is a widespread problem and should be prevented by direct ventilation. I'll check it out. In normal TV the Clouding almost never falls by the way on in movies with black border something already more, and who is as smart as me and the same as the first test "Star Trek - The Movie" pushes into the DVD player may be in the pitch-black space of course recognize every little deviation perfect. ;-) By the time I've also found that the perception of bright areas also depends heavily on the seat position: In case of direct top view of the effect is less pronounced than while looking from the side (then the black generally a bit "gray") ,
Even my Oller DVD player at the Scart input is driven to new heights. Suddenly the thick pixel on the menu screen are clearly visible, which previously simply walked in mud image. Newer DVD (Lord of the Rings ...) look really good, and I paint from already thrilled with how this is going to be until BluRay ... ;-)
That leaves the sound. That is, as expected at such a shallow unit, OK. But not great. For television it was good enough, and who want home theater is sure anyway better off with a separate sound system. A digital audio output is available on the device by the way.
USB devices can be connected directly, but the built-in viewer for pictures and texts is relatively homespun. Especially as the USB port is on the left so closely attached to the framework, that with thicker sticks hardly help but come to use an extension cord (which is not recommended, according to instructions, but still works). To present quickly once brought holiday photos is's OK.
My conclusion: The Terra is not a perfect LCD TV, there are on the market certainly some better specimens. But: The cost also like multiples. In any case I have not regretted the purchase, the presentation is in view of the low price perfectly okay. Anyone looking for a great image for little money here can access safely, especially as the connecting equipment is quite lush. I am now eager to see how the device fails with the still to be acquired Buray players and fill up this review, if necessary at a later date accordingly.
4 or 5 star? I have 4 awarded because the device is not as I said perfect. In the "price / performance" there are however quite 4.5 to 5 star. As I said, how much money you want because of how much perfection invest depends on each self.
