First and current impressions

Of these months, I actually used the camera only from May again intensively.

For those interested, I have all set a few freehand pictures of insects with ISO 1000+ at the end of the customer images. The high resolution, the good AF and the low noise of the D600 where I came in good stead. With appropriate illumination (off-camera flash, reflector, umbrella) and tripod could have been but this fix as well or sometimes even better with a cheap camera in the MF and LiveView.

Meanwhile some real problems are encountered even in my copy:
Oil stains I have, however, very few (since no kit lens was used) A few brighter spots are visible on the left side (addition of dust and pollen, which have since dropped, but the manufacturer can not).

But now to the real problems: My machine is one of the first and defective recognized by Nikon now! Series (all before .... 605) sensor, so I was assured by phone, be replaced. In addition, the battery showed after only about 5,000 trips a lifetime of 4! Years and kept from the beginning only about 400 to 500 trips at a time from (For a replacement battery are after repeated charging about 1,000 trips)

Particularly serious: The Camera Electronics spins around: Again and again I have to adjust, with the original battery, I now no longer use, after each recharge date. With the replacement battery, or when uploading photos to your computer: Every 2 to 3 times. With Fremdobjetiv (Tamron VC 90) the exposure is not working.

In addition, with my copy a clear green tint, but at that time I was able to respond with new setting of Auto1 White Balance on M1-A2 to my satisfaction.

Since I only shoot in RAW mode, the camera for me so far was almost without limitations and in spite of all the problems given me a lot of nice shots.

Because here (and in any other user forums) already after 1 day use outen some people as professionals and praise cameras to the skies or condemn as total scrap, and I neither am one or other of opinion now, I want my original 5 star does not simply withdraw so. Because actually deserves this camera, if it works well because, if only for its value for money quite 5 star. The advantages of direct settings on Body, the large and bright viewfinder, the visual impression of full-frame and the good (though not outstanding) and relatively fast autofocus outweigh the problems for me. After I switched from analogue to digital compact and then DX to FX, I feel in good hands in this sector. An even more precise and faster autofocus would indeed be my dream, but totally exaggerated in my income and the purely private use (I speak here of the 1D .. or D4s or x not of the 5D or D800!) I am still of the opinion, that whoever passionately photographed, with good bodys and lenses will be much happier!

Well, let's see how and how quickly the Nikon service regulates the problems.

After that I will make a new evaluation and, if necessary, pull out one or more stars. Errors can occur always, and then the customer service at the height should be!

Old review:

I received the camera yesterday and around 150 pictures. Actually still too early to give a proper opinion and my 5 stars I give indication of new findings.

Also I have been next to a few "broken" only one quality FX lens: the 105 VR f2.8 Micro. So here also still have to come and experience new lenses.

What I can tell so far: From the Operation ago very similar to its predecessor D7000 and D300. I own a D5100 and D300.

Noise performance: much better than the other two models. With ISO 2000 you can see a fine-grained noise on the screen, but that does not really bother.
Autofocus: in about as good as the D300 (a lot better than the D5100)
Resolution: much better than the D300, better than the D5100.
Weight and ergonomics: similar to the D7000
Viewfinder: looks from the outside as the viewfinder of the D7000. When look into is a but opens up a wider field of view. If you come from a D5100, which is an eye-opener! In order to get in about an idea: go into business, D5100 (or 3200) with D7000 Compare that roughly corresponds to the comparison between D7000 and D600!
Better yet but at the D300 for Farsighted: diopter compensation.
Operation: easy to very easy for transfer passengers

Important: Where color misalignment in Automatic White Balance: On my machine the green is too pop and dominant. It can be resolved relatively well by the white balance menu - Automatically normal - right click and boxes goes on the gnomon down and two to the right. For my taste, the result is good and Portrait Tough. In my D5100 I had bought shortly after the introduction, it was that way. At that time I have returned disappointed. With the new D5100, I bought a few months ago, everything is perfect. Is that just a coincidence, or you shortly after launch rather unlucky with the White Balance? This time I will not return the camera, with the Behelfsabgleich it goes quite well. If it should bother me later, I will send them directly to Nikon for calibrating.

So, all I can say so far. Who likes to read English, so can sometimes at Ken Rockwell (former! Nikon fan and now Canon lovers) look or Tom Hogan, Mansurovs.com or imaging resource.

Addendum after two more days, and about 200 more photos:

What is the D600 for now so much better than my D5100 or D300?
Clearly: it offers the possibility to obtain very useful and sharp images without flash or tripod in low light condition !!!!
For all lovers of available light photography is a real highlight! In 6400 my photos look like as the D300 at ISO 400 and also provide more details.
This means that with a proper lens (eg the small and low-cost 50 mm 1.8 or 85 mm 1.8) I can without flash and without tripod candlelight photograph and achieve very nice results. That would, of course, at a party or in concert, in a church, museum etc.
In daylight: The image impression is round and somehow spatial. The resolution is higher and thus you see more fine details. Also, the dynamic range is higher and therefore more details are preserved in very bright or very dark areas. But here I find the difference of fall not so serious.
For portrait photographer of course, the better the possibility of exemption not to be despised with beautiful bokeh.

Speaking of color: the LCD screen are the colors to yellow again. So I deleted some appealing portrait photographs rashly. So consider the best ever until the screen.

Addendum after about 2 weeks:

I'm still happy. Actually even more satisfied. The dynamic range is just great !. If you have no DSLR and the D600 with two - can afford three clever lenses, can strike in any case and the DX format safely skip (although I the marketing Heini Nikon fully play with this statement in his pocket, sorry) I 've now even the Nikkor risen 50 1.4 G. A 85 mm (not the 1.4 G, surely that is too expensive, sigh) is expected to follow. I have tested my old 70-210 f4. The results are much better than with the D300.

My conclusion at this point: I love the D600 a lot of joy, but was no less fun. I would especially recommend it to those who like to shoot portraits and landscapes. For macro and wildlife photography and HDR a D400 or something similar would be great !! When the Nikon people came here in the corridors, that would be for me again a great temptation. Sport I can not judge, but for kids and dogs enough the D600. The video function, I can not really judge. Even the automatic program and the Scene modes, which I really wanted to ignore sniffed, I have partially tested and find it not bad (if you want the brain sometimes treat a rest).

My old D300's great of the functions here and in many ways the D600 even superior (bracketing up to 9! Images for HDR photography, 51 auto focus fields that go over the whole field, more speed with battery grip, way more favorable DX to use lenses), but the sensor and in-camera image processing are simply not up to date !!!

I used also analog photographed (sometimes even almost everything manually) and the images of the D600 can now finally connect to this time (without all the photo Committee). Film quality on digital, super! Is there also with other cameras, but this I could not use, unfortunately.

It will probably always be something new and even more desirable in the photo area. The temptation is lurking in every corner (lenses, lighting, tripod, even "better" model). The photo industry is probably still so much deserve me.
