In my work both the eSATA port as well as USB 2 and flawlessly without any problems. Via USB 2 can I play Black from the device video recordings on Blu-ray player from Panasonic DMP-BD75EG-K Blu-ray player (HDMI, 1080p upscaler, USB). This works reliably, if I unplug the device after pressing the hardware safe-remove function from the PC - otherwise it may be that the Blu-ray player, the hard drive does not recognize (inconsistencies because the PC nor data when disconnecting written to disk has). USB 3 I could not test.
Addendum 24.12.2013:
One can also use a SSD hard drive with it. Then you come to a transfer rate of 240 MB / s (SATA 3). The most reliable work of connecting a supplied 12V eSATAp cable. The other above-mentioned solution via a Y cable, I had probably sometimes the problem is that the hard drive was not recognized due to the lower voltage supply via USB 2.0 (5 V). Also USB 3.0 works flawlessly and achieved the same data rate as with eSATA.
