Focused (temporally), very heterogeneous and very catchy

I hope this album is not usually too many fans backfires. Billy has since the beginning of the year rather cryptically, the media fueled with then quite peculiar statements. My favorite statement: I feel like its there, and all of the response did Ive gotten behind the scenes is off the charts. Just a really, really intense response. Things like people saying, This is the record I've been waiting for you to make for 15 years. That kind of stuff, very grandiose things, but it tells me thatwere on point, in terms of hitting the right note. Because if you made like, hahaha, Siamese Dream 2, people wouldnt have that response. They wouldnt see it as current, and I Know That from my own list, so it feels current to people indeed are hearing it.

Clear, right? Are you running, Billy.

For this is the monument to An Elegy then but relatively slim and unkryptisch become. Billy Corgan still has something to contribute, the album sounds very varied, the songs are compact and focused and are very trimmed above all on melody and catchiness. It is not Siamese Dream II or Mellon Collie II, nor is the direct successor to the almost progressive intricate Oceania, but if you look to the catchiness of the songs (yes, I mean that some acts poppig :-) can befriend, then you will be very satisfied.

TIBERIUS opens the album. The guitar riffs, you find yourself immediately homey, they are reminiscent of the Pumpkins in the early stage. However, give the piano part and the Ghosts and Gods chorus the song a fresh coat of paint. A very successful opening for a varied album

BEING BEIGE has been known for some time, earlier you had said it was the lead single from the album. In the first runs this song caught me very irritated and on the wrong foot, probably I was too much taken in by the hype preliminary and expected a rockier, harder song. But BEING BEIGE grows. Especially through the texts. Where other older become rock contemporaries can not convey their message so believable, Billy Corgan sounds with then but soon 50 still lost and looking for nearby. And the song was of course a very poppy melody and chorus.

Anaïse! is then a break to the mood that produced the first two songs. The rhythm ventures into unknown (funky) lengths and the mixture with the synthesizers acts a little crooked. The whole ends in a then again good catchy chorus. Time will tell whether this song then not more of a candidate who will be skipped while listening.

While one is surprised and shaken, that was exactly what the SONGS previously, it is clear that one is at a Smashing Pumpkins album with ONE AND ALL once again. The song is classic '90s, with a bold grunge riff guitar impenetrable walls and not a single electronic beeping.

RUN2ME is then a classic splitter, which is actually only 0 or 1 and no gray area in between there. Powered by synthesizers, with references to New Order and Springsteen, even a little to the Killers and a great, pathetic melody (Run to me, my love is strange), there will be complete rejection or immediately kneel down at the fans. I kneel down, so a knack for a great pop song I did not expect at Corgan.

DRUM + FIFE also falls back on its catchiness. After a brief intro of the song comes right to the point, the melody.

MONUMENTS has similar Anaïse! then again a slight Club and Tanzvibe. This song, however, the experiment works better because the modern elements are cleverly mixed with classic Smashing Pumpkins passages.

DORIAN is a reference to Adore. A funny author said the song is like a remix of Erasure Smashing Pumpkins songs. So all this can not be dismissed out of hand, but somehow you have to, as so often salute that Corgan simply knows no limits.

With Anti-Hero album closes on a high note. Fairly rocky, but less in the alternative grunge rock sense, but rather in the direction of pop punk. And again equipped with a melody that sets immediately.

Musically the album is thus a piñata, a mix of many styles that will actually connected only by a. The songs come very straight to the point and are almost all equipped with catchy melodies. Although become very trendy in this sense, then surely many fans of one or the other song hard nut to crack. With me are the Anaïse and DRUM + FIFE, which I do not find so hot. Tiberius and ANTIHERO ignited immediately, BEING beige and RUN2ME needed anything, but are then indispensable. If there is something to criticize, it is the length of the album (33 minutes) and that lack in some places Chamberlin and has not worked with a drum computer (instead of with this partly unspeakable 80s Föhnlockenrocktrommler ;-).
