Folklore (video game)

Customer Review

There are games that are so refreshingly different that they courageously as counter product face the interminable continuation series in today's gaming market. I eagerly ordered me thus 'Folklore', an unconventional genre mix of adventure and action. The result has unfortunately rather disappointed me. But a glance at this site shows that 'Folklore' very polarized. As with almost any other game for Sony's console, the player base splits into two camps.

Here are actually all the ingredients together to make the game an experience. The player controls two characters through the mysterious Irish village of Doolin. Ellen returns after 17 years back, in search of her family history and her missing mother, while the reporter Keats looking for a good story follows a mysterious call. Piece by piece, the two figures, a dip in a mysterious plot and explore what happened on Samhain in the village 17 years ago.

The list of shortcomings is clearly already playing the prologue. A voice output (only in the few video sequences) are nowhere and the dialogues run comic-like speech bubbles cut in from. Although the staging is down quite apart, but the player must already smile when phrases like "Aah! Help!" appear, because the lack of scoring is reflected in Puncto atmosphere down and pulls the game by the bungling synchronization (open lips and close completely unmotivated) a little into Whimsical ridiculous. If you already brings out the title on a next-gen console, the missing speech already does not seem quite up to date. To complain about also the frequent and relatively long charging times are (inaudible: Although the title looks nice, but is graphically no force), namely whenever a player leaves a new chapter and a new enters. Since this often happens, the gameplay seems very choppy.

In addition, I disliked the extreme linearity of the game. The Adventure-heavy half of the day the game is usually restricted to talk to a person and to get a memento to push on with the aid of night the gateway to the underworld. Unfortunately, the figure always leads to the beginning of the chapter a monologue and advocates and the players always the next step forward, so that independent Combine largely invisible. Scenes, by the way, the game progress still do not matter are also not accessible.

At night, in the underworld developed 'Folklore' its greatest charm, it is up to the Folklore wade. Only after you have defeated this larger monsters, the way to Dead is free, which can be questioned after the events 17 years ago in Doolin now. Along the way, like the combat system. Allow the souls (The Soul Capture works with the SIXAXIS controller) captured Folks struggling for itself, there is an abundance of nature, all of which are useful to a certain type of enemy also. Especially beautiful illustrated book has been implemented. Like a picture puzzle has to find out to which creature must be summons to the new folk.

One can even level up the trapped souls, by fulfilling certain tasks, defeating about 5 or 10 Folks of the same type or sacrifice objects left. By means of the L2 button can be the key assignment of folk attacks set (maximum of only 4) and here is another weakness of the game reveals. Since you will be forced to attack Folks constantly changing due to the immunity (something that I welcome in principle), you spend a lot of time to change the key assignment. This is neither particularly comfortable nor this contributes to the fluidity of the game. In addition, you have to be relatively wide so it goes on and here is again the rub from a certain point of the game with two characters. Ellen and Keats play the same chapter with only minimal differences as much repetition is.

Conclusion
------
Especially with such a polarizing titles as 'folklore', it is worthwhile to play the demo from the PSN Store. Proposes a the added good story under the spell and you can about the many, many technical defects overlooked in terms of atmosphere and service, the game is worth a look. In other team wins the acts but simply not mature and partially out of date at all potential.
