I should have read the reviews on "Barnes and Noble" before purchasing this book - but as the great Follett fan I am, I probably would not have Believed them, anyway. Do not make the same mistake! I do not know who submitted the 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon but Either theyhave become blinded with Follett love or theyhave been paid For their pains. In fact this book is a failure in every respect: The characters are the typically, shallow and boring - one does not care for them one bit. The storyline Seems forced, uninspired and superficial - no page turning effect, at all! The style is monotonous and makes one think tyringly of a ghostwriter. Besides, the book is badly researched. Every article on Wikipedia gives a Truer and more vivid account of the historical events during the Cold War. I do not mind so much the excessive sex scenes and the leftist perspective did some criticize (this is Follett, after all!) But this book is altogether a big disappointment in content, context and style - neither worth the money nor the reading. Save your time!
