In brief, the advantages that I could see in my tests:
+ The display quality of the monitor
+ The touchscreen operation as an additional level for many beginners make sense (for example, has the Sony NEX 5R), but not everyone likes the
+ Image quality is decent, especially the JPEG Enginge Like
+ It is small and does not even bad in the default color
+ The weight is okay - despite some magnesium casing
+ The current price of 380 euros is acceptable for image quality
+ Autofocus when filming is gentle and quite accurately
What I then did not like:
- You can not make shots with this camera simply because the autofocus at least 1 second is required (often more than one and a half seconds). When you have finally triggered, the moment was already past (if the one of 10 pictures happens at 5, then sucks the enormous). Somehow, the inexplicable, since Canon as strong for the Hybrid autofocus (ie additional phase sensors on the image sensor) has made advertising. I am currently (honestly) no known current camera that's so slow. Autofocus was hitherto always (in the SLR's) the strength of Canon, but this is unacceptable => therefore I understand here the 5 star reviews at Amazon does not - especially among those who even mention the problem with the auto-focus explicitly. If one withdraws because, when will please then no star ?!
=> Sony incidentally also heavily relies on hybrid autofocus - although there there any major improvement, but at least they are better than with normal AF.
- The case is really difficult to grasp - as a nub is at the front inserted as anti-slip mat, but with a slightly larger lens than a pancake (eg a standard 18-55), it is no longer to keep you safe when you anything "wet" has hands. The other manufacturers have better solved. When a NEX 5R eg I never felt that I could drop the thing. Here the design has been clarified on the functionality.
- There is no way to infect a viewfinder (let alone as NEX6, NEX7 to use a built-in)
- There is no flash integrated (other manufacturers in the 2nd and 3rd Generation System Camera ate here which built, although often only weak but sufficient)
- There is a suggested that one can use all EF lenses innately (Well, it was my colleague sold). Unfortunately, this was misinformation. Either you buy the new EF-M lenses (where there is not much), or you have to make an adapter, you are with the normal EF lenses. This with the new stepper motors (stitch Word STM) is also many a regurgitation here. But a real Canonier feels no pain in the wallet.
- Videos are in MOV format, which is rather unpratisch for cutting (why is not used here AVCHD 2.0, is probably a red pen owed)
- No swivel display like some competing systems
- Delay of almost two seconds (yawn)
- Unfortunately, only 6 continuous shots at 4 frames per second (in RAW format). But cache is expensive, so that's probably appropriate then.
Not counted:
o somehow I could not create a bracketing (there somehow nowhere), but maybe I'm just too "patschert"
My conclusion: Who a camera with good image quality is looking primarily at a reasonable price and the speed is completely matter (and I mean that as well, because you have to be already predisposed nihilistic), which can with the Canon even have his joy. The only "real / gross" flaw is the AF, which actually has a huge potential of the hardware, but Canon has really messed up. Hybrid autofocus systems are the future - Point-and-shoot has been reinterpreted and has changed in Point Boot Wait-Shoot. Actually, the expectations were high that Canon brings a real bang on the market after such a long wait to get on the system camera market. Unfortunately, something went in my pants, seemingly Canon tries to mitigate the dilemma about the price.
Who, incidentally, wants to invest in the future in other lenses, is should think twice, because at present the offer for the EOS-M bayonet is quite small and the other lenses such as Sony only through an adapter can be connected (With Sony you get but then SLT also a system to interested filmmakers what should especially).
Alternatives: I would look around more with the Sony NEX or Panasonic system because you get more overall performance for your money
Note: even if I am referring here to desöfteren Panasonic and Sony NEX systems as comparison, I have none of these systems. That's just the experience that I have done so in person.
