Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i document scanner (150 dpi, A4, USB 2.0) Silver (accessory)

Customer Review

So far, I completed accumulating scanning work (to manage the whole currently comes despite its many flaws still PaperPort 14 for use) in the Home Office with the scanner unit of a Brother MFC, traveling with a Scanner app for Smartphone.
But the latter is really only at low volume scanning practicable, and the scan quality, well ...
And if you want to scan both sides, which is (insert stack, by running, contact, by running the batch again, and then hope that the software adds the pages together properly) on the MFC slow and error-prone.

Multifunction printers with duplexfähigem scanners are either too slow (2-pass method, and the "turning mechanisms" are asuch like to bitchy) or as "real", ie single-pass duplex scanner so expensive that it is also equal to one for the charge can stand separate duplex document scanners.

Since I am on the road a lot and likewise some accumulates at paperwork, I had long been looking for a sufficiently small but powerful such device that also accumulating duplex scans should be done in the home office.
Beginning on the verge of the Canon 208 to buy, but the frequent reports on paper feeding problems made me but then pick up the Fujitsu.

The device scanning software proved under Windows 8.1 as far as unproblematic. DVD insert, first selected only the basic package, and after a few minutes it could go.

About a Taskbar icon and some basic settings (predefined but customizable subsequently) profiles for different scanning tasks and targets are selected. Scanner connected, opened, inserted template, pressed ScanButton and SnapScan managed his office ...

The actual scanning process is easily the product where the scan results for the intended purpose of the device more than neat. The resolution and accuracy of the mechanical scanner can convince quite pale receipts come legible, in duplex mode but sometimes at the cost of due translucent font fälchlich unrecognized as such and therefore coassigned blank page. No problem, using the supplied soft (or here with PaperPort) corrected quickly.
A high-end photo scanner I've been using the device but definitely not, but that I did not even expect.

Responsible for transporting several times in the housing cover "zusammenzufaltende" paper guide seemed a bit delicate, but served its purpose. Also receipts etc. are clean drafted, but not always recognized immediately as inserted because it is necessary to follow up on something if necessary.
The unfortunately increasingly encountered in receipts, bad habit to make selbige even with only a few articles on it by huge logos and pages and pages of advertising copy to a meter long "scarf", unfortunately causes the scanner sometimes processing terminates because he thinks detects a jam at have. Then helps only trimming.

Speaking of the housing cover, which was also out of the box for the first (and hopefully first single) real nuisance to the hardware itself, for if its downright mimosa-like silver finish they can be saved, which was the very first hands-significant, no longer removable " finger marks ", and the subsequent transport in a suitcase despite wrapping with a soft towel a few more abrasive tracks afterward. So the device until then only used two days looks the same as Sau.

The scanner needs at least temporarily more power than a single USB port can supply, so in addition to the USB data cable is still a USB "power thief" (USB to barrel connector) for a second port available, alternatively, the included AC adapter can be used with the scanner also switches to a slightly higher operating speed. One of the two additional power supplies MUST be but. Here you could possibly with a buffer battery, the intercepting "peak", can realize the whole thing with a little less impenetrable cable-jumble.
After all, the power supply is fairly compact, but I'll take it on the go not with, but use the USB charging socket of my laptop power supply.

The fact that the scanner can not respond directly from PaperPort or other TWAIN / WIA-compliant applications, is a bit of getting used to and acts when "normal" scanner is used, unnecessarily cumbersome, but the problem can be achieved by pre-setting of some profiles and scan in a "through-folder" (which is managed automatically on request of the software, ie automatic "decluttering" from there not "retrieved" scans) largely "defuse".

Speaking of PaperPort, the supplied software "ScanSnap Organizer" is strongly reminiscent selfsame "classic" whose original version was originally provided with one of the first mobile document scanner x years ago. Unfortunately, Fujitsu's "PaperPort Clone" is considerably less flexible than its model. You do not see at other PaperPort "replicas" and that "Desktop View" with the free placeable documents icons, which you could still get over. But most of all denied the "ScanSnap Organizer" any further processing of PDF files created with other programs, or "handled" only after creation with the ScanSnap by another software were writing.

The "Organizer" comes here not even used, but just continue to PaperPort, about the just-described method with the "intermediate folder".

In addition there is still a nice addition in the form of a business card management. Who's need ...

In the software otherwise fell still, you at least on my laptop (Haswell i7 with 16GB of RAM and SSD, no "ULV" processor) in battery mode VERY much carrier reacted as in network operation, not the actual operation, but the waiting times until it starts after pressing the scan button, or until after clicking the taskbar icon pops up the menu.
Such behavior was on this machine so far with any other soft from the "office environment" fixable.

Conclusion: a practical, not ultra-, but still enough for occasional transport compact, in principle, although rock-solid, but unfortunately the housing forth slightly more sensitive duplex scanner with a device for such unusual but useful software connection.
