I use Readiris 14 on an iMac running OS X 10.8, after installing CD-ROM I have to me offered version 14.0.3. updated.
The OCR software comes with me to use, because I want to digitally archive large amounts of old newspaper articles. These are cut pieces of paper that were glued on DIN A4 sheets, some of which are more than 25 years old and faded or the adhesive is easy to see. Some are glued cross, but that is clean recognized by Readiris and rotated on the screen option for viewing and editing.
After some trial and error it works now projecting: The sheet comes in a Brother scanner that is addressed via the TWAIN interface. After the scan I control the columns that Readiris has more than 95% clean detected and marked. Then I save the text of a text file on the desktop, the other export formats I do not use. This text is finally copied to my Textverbeitung; here I miss only that Readiris does not automatically copy the text (if desired) to the clipboard, that would save me steps.
The results are very good, now I scan at 400 dpi, here the lyrics have to be only rarely reworked when about the paper was stained or damaged.
Who teaches the program in interactive learning mode and dictionary yet critical signs, increases the already good hit again.
Of all the OCR program on the Mac Readiris has achieved the best results with me. I can therefore only recommend.
