Advantages of Nikon P310:
++ Good image quality and beautiful colors in bright light.
++ Autofocus is very good. Fast and accurate. The best autofocus I've ever experienced in a compact.
++ Automatic functions (Scene Selection, modes, etc.) work very well and provide good image quality, good for beginners.
++ In the Photo area many manual settings for exposure possible.
++ Color and color saturation. Beautiful, "crisp" and yet natural colors already in automatic mode and / or default configuration.
++ Unusually large Aperture f / 1.8 for a compact, and the maximum aperture of 1.8 is actually useful (by that I mean, the image quality is not too bad).
++ 24mm wide-angle (24mm are genuine, I checked with my Nikkor 10-24 (15-36) mm compared).
++ Good battery life with me, have already 300 photos plus 10 minutes of video managed with one battery charge.
++ The lens is of the highest order: distortion, vignetting and edge blurring I want from Aperture 2.8 upwards almost as zero or "No" vote, quite amazing. At maximum aperture of 1.8, the sharpness declines in total (center and edge), but for a maximum aperture still good. In WW 24mm and maximum aperture a little barrel distortion is visible, but minimal.
VIDEO: The video function is a highlight. Full-HD, 1080p, 30fps, stereo sound, the videos are pretty smooth and flowing with bold colors. Sound quality is also very good. Zoom brings presents minimal noise on the soundtrack that does not bother me.
Now for the most important differences between P310 and P300:
++ Sensor with 16 MP instead of 12 MP, both with backlight CMOS (BSI).
++ 3: 2 format possible with the P310.
++ The customizable Fn key added in the P310.
++ NR noise reduction: 3 different levels (strong-normal-light) can not be changed in the P310, in P300.
++ Iso 100-6400 (P310) compared to 160-3200 in the P300.
++ Picture Control at P310. This sharpness, contrast and saturation (Standard, Neutral, Brilliant, monochrome) can be adjusted manually in each picture mode.
++ The P310 can be set, above which exposure time, ISO speed will be already increased.
++ Live histogram can be switched to continuous display.
++ The P310 has a mode for manual focusing. (Using the arrow keys on the dial wheel).
++ When auto white balance between Auto 1 "normal" and Auto 2 "warm light" can be selected.
++ User mode on the mode dial which (U) is selectable.
++ Despite increasing the megapixels to 16 image quality and noise have become no worse, even more become a bit better, even at 1: 1 magnification on the PC display.
The biggest surprise is the last point: The image quality compared to the P300 to put even a little, that I really had not expected at 16 MP.
In no point the P310 is worse than the P300, there have been no setbacks in development. All points in favor of the P310. (This is Not a matter of course in a time when the successor models often deteriorations and losses over the previous models have).
Nevertheless, I have to bring criticism of the P310:
- It still lacks a RAW function! Here Nikon has missed a great opportunity. This was a major shortcoming already in the P300.
- With regard to the hotly anticipated by me 3: 2 format I have suffered a bitter disappointment: This format is in place and functioning properly, but: the * later *, camera-internal image processing functions all do not work when you use this format ( image enhancement, contrast, D-Lighting, filter applications, cropping, color optimization, etc.)
So I take pictures but again with 4: 3 format and my beloved 3: 2 format remains my DSLR's reserved (including a D90).
Well, and now to the difficult question: If P300 owners Every change to the P310? Despite the many advantages that I mentioned above for the P310, not necessarily.
It is so that I am very gone in my comparison to the last detail and have been trying to work out the differences. I wailed at a high level. In an overall conclusion, it is so that the differences but not sooo are spectacular and justify a further teller not necessarily. The P300 is and remains a very good compact, and the P310 brings a few improvements, but does not constitute a quantum leap compared to P300.
My Recommendation:
Who was satisfied with his P300 to date, this should keep.
Who is a Pixelpeeper like me, desperate to have all the new features, and / or love makes as many settings manually targeted by the P310.
The main difference between the P300 and P310 is that the P310 provides more manual adjustments. Clearly, the P300 can outdo the P310 but not total.
Conclusion: 4 stars. 1 star deduction for the missing RAW function and because the 3: 2 format the camera's internal image processing does not work (-> Maybe brings a firmware update soon this regard improvement?).
