It is time.
It is time to admit: Yes, we did.
Have invested money and did it: We have made the switch. From a 6-year-old tube TV on the Samsung UE32C6000 LED TV with HD and a DVD player to Blu-ray, namely the Samsung BD-C 5900, plus an HDMI cable.
First impressions:
The Blu-ray player is just unpacked and wired later. Done.
When (here rated) TV you a little tinkering. Finally, you can hang it on the wall or stand classic; with us in the latter case. The screwing of the foot to the device requires two operations, in each of which 5 bolts must be turned into the appropriate holes. Made no problems, even if the manual is a bit narrow in this regard. Do not allow to mess up: Of the 2 supplied components each one requires only one (wall or walking). When screwing on the foot should be in pairs.
Modern TVs have quite a lot of settings; the first steps but well explained in the manual. Works fine, much is automated.
The first image that we got to see was very unsatisfactory - a too strong contrast. But it should not be confused: the factory-preset are not ideal. But - you can adjust it so.
And so we were half an hour later for the first time relax and began to be amazed: What a picture!
Now I almost never see so far: Time for the Blu-Rayer! It is sufficient if these transfers all data over the HDMI cable, and so now stuck on TV the Playstation 2, an old VCR and halt the Blu-ray player.
Now the really important for us ordeal: how the two devices will work? Jump into the drive with my year-dream film "Train Your Dragon", I saw 11 times in the cinema and another 13 times on DVD about the old TV. Because I know every scene, every detail.
(An interjection: I am not a graphic and detail freak Spitz said. The main thing is you see something, and if it looks good:. So much the better but the atmosphere and style of a movie are more important to me)
So, poured wine, dimmed light, called the main menu, and I feel like I sit there motionless with his mouth open in amazement.
Play.
And now I say nothing ... in the best sense! Actually, I had made up my mind to me, mentally noting details that I have so far never discovered the prestige 24 times in order to retrieve them later. But that I am hopelessly overwhelmed! Written down, it would have been at the end of at least 2 A4 pages; it is (said pointedly), when I saw the film for the first time on a large screen instead of the current on an 8-inch ...
Three examples:
1.) moss on the rocks I knew so far as reasonably realistic green stain. Now this is actually Moos Moos, in 3D, highly detailed, disheveled, real.
2.) That on a conifer (actually!) Needles grow, also looks at the cinema or on DVD. But that these are precisely detailed and clearly distinguishable from each other, I was new.
3.) There is a scene because the film in cinema and DVD is somehow something like slightly noisy. I've never thought about it (is halt so) and see now for the first time: That's drizzle! And then one realizes that Hicks actor has slightly damp hair! Neither the theater nor on DVD me is aware of this (!) Noticed, nor my film actor partner who has "Train Your Dragon" and 3 times in the cinema and maybe 6 times viewed on DVD!
Really I could as usual not enjoy the film, because I constantly discovered new details. A hammer!
Even the sound like and be surprised. Finally, the speaker, well, actually hardly exists because the TV is indeed narrower than a paperback - but still: there is not just "sound", but it sounds really good!
These experiences on the whole I can now fully confirmed by the Blu-ray of the film "Avatar"; For example, I could suddenly read the writing on Jake's backpack! Previously, she was certainly well as - but simply not noticed! And Jake's pants were previously just a pair of pants - and now "lives" it gets bright spots, dark, fibrations ...
Control DVD "Avatar" plus old TV: Yes, so the pants, but on DVD that falls just not really on! Even the (me already enjoyed with the old equipment) plasticity effect (a sort of "Two and a half-D" theater of 3D movies on a 2D medium) comes across fully. This also applies to "Train Your Dragon".
Back to TV:
A headphone port's course, it works just fine, and it sounds excellent!

Again, the picture is great, and it's true: Since the DVD's are automatically scaled up back details to the fore, who had been hiding shyly. I experienced this when sample Watch the DVD of "Train Your Dragon".
Connection Playstation 2:
Tentatively I threw the already quite old football game Pro Evolution Soccer 6 a - and admit that I was once easily shocked. It looks horrible!
The lateral distortion of the image is costing me a push of a button, and then the image is in the correct format. That works, but it's still ugly!
Well, fate! With the images of TV and Blu-ray in the head you have to make compromises as violent only once. Sensational the graphics of this game was still never, but at least "neat" - now it is "bad", but after some games when the brain has changed and the concentration is carried out to the games, after all, "still acceptable". My audition I've also smooth with 0: 5 lost .. ouch!
To improve image quality, however, there component video cable (eg PS2 / 3 DVD Component Cable here on Amazon) to improve image quality. I will try.
Connecting VCR:
Vermatschte textures remain vermatschte textures; Again, one should not expect miracles. Good shots are, clearly, still viewable, otherwise it is: Live with it! It is helpful then to wegzusetzen something from the TV. Fits on ...
A first real result after a good week: Is it worth the switch to HD-TV and Blue-ray?
A clear unequivocal YES!
Such detailing surpasses in fact my expectations by far! Class image, fine sound, good connections - a strong buy recommendation !!
The only restriction: If poor graphics of almost obsolete or soon to be named equipment is supplied, it looks rather worse than usual, because one now has to compare. But that may, or should you have to stop living.

EDIT 2 weeks later: an addendum concerning the image quality when using the PS 2:
With a component video cable (also here there quite cheap), the image quality is also rising, "better than the old television [something]" to. One finds the PS 2 from the menu no longer under "AV" Special under "Component".
Therefore, a fortiori, a clear recommendation!
