The big downside first: Lousy radio reception!
Before installing I have noted on the route to work exactly when and how much noise occurs at Bayern2 and B5 aktuell. Compared with this "noise Protocol" makes the Sony CDX-G1000 unfortunately no good figure because of "Digital Clarity Tuner" already in the city this radio receives only a few stations free from noise. On the highway, the Sony transmitter loses completely at several points and is different from the Opel radio then no alternative frequency of the same station. Despite glowing of "AF" (Alternative frequency) on the display. Instead, I land then mostly at Antenne Bayern.
The interruption of AUX / USB playback or switch channels during traffic works, but I am also under the impression that only a few stations are found (1x traffic at 1.5 hour drive seems to me much too rare).
Apart from this (for me) big negative point has me Sony surprised positively in several places:
- The sound is full and the bass reproduction is good if the corresponding EQ preset is selected. I have the impression that the Sony Radio brings a lot more out of the boxes out as the Opel-Radio.
- Play from the USB stick: My (perhaps 50% full) 4 GB USB stick is read very quickly, almost immediately after plugging start playback. When switching from USB to radio reception or Aux input, the Sony remembers the position in the current song, ie the return to USB it comes at the same point on. This is great especially for audiobooks. However, the device can only read FAT32 formatted media, not NTFS or other modern file formats and no USB media such as mobile phone, iPod, etc.
- Navigation through a USB stick or the menu is quick and easy despite one-line display.
Conclusion:
+ Optics
+ Aux-Play
++ Sound and volume
++ USB Navigation
- Radio reception
