Normally I drive a Fully as Enduro for something more engaging tours. As I have a suspension fork RS Relevation, and as a shock absorber Fox model is built. Thus, I can say that I am spoiled by the MTB technique actually.
But unfortunately my Relevation has after 16 months (!) A total loss, and the fork had to be posted (Actually, the Relevation yes no "cheap-fork", and should not actually be already defective. But with my 58 kg and the XC tours it seems probably "overwhelmed" been his ;-).
But enough of anger).
Since I decided to tinker with my oldest MTB something because I did not want to stand there for the rest of the summer with no bike. The repair will surely take some time.
So, I have reactivated my old hardtail. After 8 years as a shopping bike existence it has for me now a great "comeback". The XC 30 (which was recommended to me as a cheap alternative of my esteemed bicycle dealer) here ordered (Thanks Fahrrad.de for lightning delivery !!!) and also installed quickly. Furthermore, I have bought a new stem, fork and saddle to enhance it ....
It makes a very solid impression and definitely enough for cross-country tours, so more or less "Cross Country". I think it but has reserves to master even the occasional slight Trail. From the suspension behavior of course you can not expect the level of Reba, Relevion or Fox 32er, but for 120 euros you get but a cheaper alternative that can be fun with swabs. She swallows holes and other bumps with its 100mm travel quite well off; the response is also neat, and the "rebound", as how fast the fork rebound again, you can even adjust. Just as the preload (basic hardness of the fork). Since I am very easy to the lightest level one tick is actually still too hard for me, but that's tolerable.
By lock-out function (blue lever on the right standpipe) can they quickly make "hard"; which is quite good for slopes because too much propulsion energy goes into the damping. It is then determined, almost like a steel fork. Unlike my Relevation which recognizes itself in the solid state, whether they should nevertheless springs the odd sharp blow away, the XC is 30 just as hard as steel. The impact then goes through fully. The just demands a vorauschauendere driving by the user. Otherwise it can hurt. From the processing and the material also makes them a good impression. And the inclusion of V-brakes and an existing recording option for disc brakes makes the fork more interesting.
I can only say that I, over one weekend with the XC 30 (and the other parts that I have installed on my old HT), about 100 KM have put back Primarily forest roads and easy terrain. And unlike a Fully the HT is a bit faster, of course, since stiffer ...
Conclusion:
In order to upgrade an older MTB cost, the XC is 30 by Rock Shox outstanding. It is very suitable for everyday use and simpler routes through the forest and even light trails for the money. The response and suspension behavior I feel for the price as well. Better is of course more money.
I would buy this fork in any case for my older MTB again.
