Gabriella Cilmi became known in 2008 with her loose-flaky title "Sweet about me" from the Rexona-Commercial shipping water from Amy Winehouse, Adele and Duffy almost overnight. Critics praised its incredibly powerful and soulful voice that so did not want to go with a sweet 16-year-olds. But while the press the Cilmi threw with the Blue-Eyed Soul interpreters of the island in a pot, showed her debut album that Gabriella had not set to soul music. There is also romped powerful rock songs and danceable Poptracks that reminded more of Anastacia or Blondie as alleged evil tongues to Duffy and Co., the record company would want to jump by a clever single choice on the current Soul hype. Surely that's not entirely wrong, but Gabriella's voice is flat and made for blues and soul. More disappointed showed the critics known music magazines and Internet platforms over Gabriella's second album "Ten". From the sweet teenager a lascivious woman stretching their limbs had become, who wanted henceforth to do with the 80s inspired by electro and disco music to Kylie and Madonna's competition. But who has actually heard the debut, the decision should not be surprising. Good - Gabriella could have further to go in the direction of Soul. In my opinion, but you can not blame a 18 year old that she wanted to take a true-party disk with Elekto- instead acoustic impact. Because that's "Ten" has become! Therefore, I feel the comparisons with acts like Duffy or Adele for assessing this record as more of a hindrance. Comparisons with the disco queens of the past decades are as yet somehow attached! And with which the Cilmi can already record because it has really taken a very successful disco album and vocally she is Kylie and Madonna superior anyway. Now to the music: "Superhot" recalls Donna Summers "Hot Stuff", "On A Mission" warned against easy to Van Halen's "Jump". Both tracks come pretty energetic therefore. "Hearts Do not Lie" has an irresistible rhythm. Who can sit still, who has not a drop of blood in the body. Other highlights include the fast, electronic "Love me cos' and in rather mid-tempo moving" Glue "and" Robot ". With "Defender" Gabriella has still packed a beautiful ballad on the album, which, however, would have been better off at the end of the plate. The other tracks are also all faster electro-pop tracks, while not having the impact force of the aforementioned titles, but fit consistently into the sound of the record. Finally Gabriella has still added an electronic version of "Sweet About Me". But this can in no way compete with the original and is thus more than necessary. But it does not bother also. Conclusion: Gabriella Cilmi has this time decided at the intersection of music styles for electropop. The result delivers what it promises. Driving beats, here and there a few borrowings from the 80s and forceful singing, if this often sinks on this disk in the beats. There are also some cliché-laden lyrics, however, go for a 18-year-old in order. And do not forget - the plate is really fun! The path of sad and deeply emotional blues and soul music can Gabriella then yes strike plate at number 3 ;-)
