I have no way to comparison Sigma or Nikon, but I'm very happy with the Tamron. For my needs (amateur photographer), the image quality is excellent in combination with a D610. Used with me preferably for portrait photography. So far, I do not mind even noticed what would bother me; I can wholeheartedly recommend.
