The bones of what you believe (Limited Edition) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

So far, I've never thought necessary to compose a music review.
Upon hearing of the bones of what you believe, I feel for the first time the need to recommend an album.
What's deliver Chvrches here as debut album just terrific. It would well pass for a greatest hits album, so good are the individual pieces.

Above all, of course, THE MOTHER WE SHARE. When I heard this piece a few months ago for the first time, it took my downright language and I got in literally tears to my eyes, I was so overwhelmed by the atmosphere that creates this piece and of course Laurens voice. Some melodies solve despite or because of its simplicity abruptly feelings when listening from. In THE MOTHER WE SHARE matters worse, the whole song is just by producing technically excellent, never studied in shallow waters to safety and instead with ausgepfeilten arrangements going on an expedition. Here the producer understands his work.

Most often it is then, unfortunately, so that promising newcomers who are so hyped in the media, the claim does not meet the first album to be (able to), which is made on the basis of a single good music on it.
With this thought, I have the bones of what you believe inserted in my CD player, deliberately scaled back my expectations, so as not to be too disappointed if the other items are only average. Okay, I already knew RECOVER and read and also found both been strong, though not outstanding. Of the other titles I expected - if things go well - a similar level.
What Chvrches here but present is by far - and I do not really tend to go too far - by far the best thing that has come in since quite a long time in my ears.

As a child of the 80s, I grew up with electro-pop or Synthy Pop or New Wave: Depeche Mode, OMD, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys are quasi the heroes of my childhood. From today's perspective me but none of that really Songs skin nor socks off - in the early days of computer technology is used just yet simple electronic rhythms and instruments (because it's also could not help). In the 90s, we sat then increased on stronger bass and called the whole thing Europop.
Chvrches set for me at the basic feeling of the 80s, but are due to the advanced stage of technology capable of their arrangements more organic, breathe more Human than was previously possible. Combined with Laurens childishly naive voice creates something unique. She has certainly not the best singing voice (somewhere between Björk and Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife), as an "instrument" in the sound of Chvrches fit but perfect Gesamtkunstwerk.

I had mentioned that this album could also work well as Greatest Hits pass.
In addition to the songs mentioned above have especially the quieter TETHER and powerful STRONG HAND potential for mega-hit - is incomprehensible to me that last only as a bonus track on the album and replaced, for example at the iTunes version of the album from Broken Bones has been. STRONG HANDS is the second best song I've heard of so far Chvrches.
UNDER THE TIDE than 6 song should be mentioned, as it stands out from the album, because here for the first time the song is not by Lauren Mayberry comes, but by one of her male bandmates. In Night Sky and BY THE THROAT this colleague raises as a background voice both powerful Electronic ballads even a little duet-character.
The other pieces on the album are also anything but musical monotony and do well as a radio hit.

Chvrches succeed in the bones of what you believe a mix of ballads like hymns to combine with gloomy slightly oblique melodies - not far from the mainstream, but just far enough that it always remains exciting.
