The Compendium collects The Darkness # 41 - # 89 and three one-shots. In these numbers the complete The Darkness Volume 2 is included, the stories revolve mainly around Jackie Estacados ascent to the mafia boss and to his battle against rival organizations. These stories are a nice dark mix of Mafia thriller and horror and adapted very well also from the images and colors ago this spooky style. To start, here Paul Jenkins, who also wrote Batman and other known heroes, but other authors like Ron Marz do not need to hide.
After that is still a major part of The Darkness Volume 3 include (approximately # 65 - # 89), which has been completely written by Phil Hester and of the Mafia Crime element gains some distance. This is the core to Jackies dealing with the darkness, and to humans or other powers, who want to take from the outside influence on him and his dark power. Also is already worked out that he ultimately is released from the darkness to escape. Run this, too, is very well written and implemented by great artists such as Michael Broussard or Whilce Portacio.
The three one-shots at the end of the tape are sometimes more, sometimes less interesting and would not have been necessary, but are a nice bonus.
The Compendium is so content in any case a must for fans and for people who are like me might hear about the Comcis by the Games, it is a very good start with the first Compendium. Essential is the first compendium but not as a reason explained repeatedly, sometimes only referring to earlier stories. The stories in the second compendium but are for the most part independently and especially better than the very old stuff.
From a processing perspective, the paperback version can but unfortunately points less. The sides are not glued very stable, and while reading the book solve gradually by the weight slowly single side bundle. Fallen completely to me so far nothing, but with repeated reading remains to be feared. Who wants to play it safe here, should pay the extra for the Hardcover so dear.
Nevertheless: Here you get a lot of comic thriller horror action for comparatively little money. Therefore: Be sure you!
