God Bless The Standards Trio

The concept - is clinging simply take the classic American songbook and to reinterpret jazz was already at that time, 30 years ago, nothing new, longer. The centerpiece is of course the 15 min + version of the Billie Holiday classic, God Bless The Child` which, although at that time was already present in several cover versions, but was never offered so fragile, so atmospheric and harmonious and at the same time inspired so. The slow groove is away felt by the whole number and in between there is even a short drum solo on the Johnette's - undoubted - genius then emerges. However, the other interpretations here are brimming with enthusiasm and ingenuity.

The great success of this album then also meant that there were several continuation of the Standards Trio, which were very good indeed all, but never again They sounded so motivated and inspired as to the first part.
