Both say immediately, I have a very personal affection for THE PRETTY RECKLESS, a group which in 2010 will be able to surprise me and get drunk with their first album "LIGHT ME UP" and its 10 titles of prodigious efficiency.
One special feature of this training lies in lindéniable troubling charisma of his pretty singer, Taylor Momsen, a physics behind that neo gothic doll hides an impressive voice clear and powerful rock to raucous and warm accent in his sweetest moments. We do not like his music or not, we must recognize that Taylor Momsen knows how to stage and is conscious and lucid about the importance of imaging coherently linked to his musical universe.
It is this "package" neat seduces me, the character as a whole with all its facets and attitudes. Therefore not surprising to find GOING TO HELL in an extension of that logic, whether in text, video clips sulfur of the group or the pictures that includes the cover of this limited edition where Miss Momsen poses in the nude.
Also in this context, therefore, the album works as a whole as a long confession of the beautiful singer who would Laveu the long list of his sins through 12 new tracks that make up this album, with a strong religious connotation necessarily blasphemous and a carnal side of the provocative ... Carnal, the title image that opens the hostilities when the moans of a young woman (apparently not far from reaching ecstasy!) are the starting point to the excellent FOLLOW ME DOWN, a solid piece at the resonance very 70's that shows input that we will sail between different style rock / metal during this journey between heaven and hell.
GOING TO HELL (first single from the album) then takes over by roaring guitars on alternative speed rhythm carried by the raging voice of Momsen, then comes up behind the second single HEAVEN KNOWS and choirs as a call to reason rebellion, a unifying anthem that reminds mechanics ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL PINK FLOYD (yes!). Three pieces in the explosive dynamics that are needed demblée as hits in power and confirm that you can trust to THE PRETTY RECKLESS when it comes to delivering thunderous immediately catchy songs.
But for me, it's more laid titles as sublime HOUSE ON THE HILL, dizzying ride that flies very high spinning chills without falling, or DEAR SISTER and its 56 short seconds of unsettling ethereal atmosphere that finally convinced me of how far this young formation increasingly ambitious in its work.
SWEET THINGS against me by a little lost in the convoluted musical construction, despite an interesting background and quite a frank talk about the beautiful. Given the amount of sins stated previously, Taylor Momsen even arise the question of its ABSOLUTION (which is not going to happen given the full-bodied addition of his escapades, and that's good!) In a nervous title the same name and beautifully ethereal.
The rest of the songs alternate between acoustic rock in the pure tradition (BURN, WAITING FOR A FRIEND) and effective pieces in the vein of those present in the first game (Why'd You BRING A SHOTGUN TO THE PARTY, F #### D UP WORLD). A nice change in continuity that allows Taylor Momsen to assert his world, to show that it must definitely be reckoned with (in case some people still doubts) and especially THE PRETTY RECKLESS show that will never choose the Facility continue to impose much longer. As to whether Taylor Momsen will go to hell, my faith is on course to finally and if it gives also inspired albums then this is all the good that I wish it!
LIMITED editing:
A word about limited editing "soft pack." The packaging is a little disappointing, a very fine digipack that unfolds in three parts in which is slipped on one side CD and the other a mini two-sided poster with the lyrics. The pictures are very pretty (Taylor Eve dressed in different poses) but all made a little cheap and turns out rather fragile although given the small price (12 Euros) can not really be picky.
this edition includes 2 bonus tracks also present on the "single box" version of home: GOING TO HELL in superb acoustic live version of the coup that sounds more like an intimate confession and SWEET THINGS (also live acoustic).
