It was important that a protective filter fits underneath. Sigma confirmed that at least for its own filter. About 5.5 mm leeway I have now measured itself. A B + W filter MRC-quenched and tempered F-Pro version contributes to 4.5 mm and fits easily.
I, too, would like to use a lens cap with an attached hood. You could even with minimal technical skills to remove the surface of the rectangular opening, so that is possible. It would then but far less stray light will be blocked. A rectification of Sigma it certainly will not be, because already the next DP2 generation is waiting in the wings.
So I stay with the "either-or", as I know it already from some SLR lenses ago. At least allows the hood thanks to bayonet fixing quickly and easily installed and removed.
