I use this drive with a Mac mini (model of 2012). Whether CD read / play, watch / burn DVDs or BluRay burn - all wonderful. To mention: Applies to those used from Verbatim and JVC / Taiyo Yuden. I've burned with Toast 11 and 12, each with an additional BD plugin. In addition, with Final Cut. Also Burn came once for a DVD for use. The (Compression) quality but was lousy. For data but certainly ok Look to BluRay I take the Mac Blu-ray Player version 2.8.6.1218 of Macgo. Goes great as well. The always well-tested predecessor SE-506BB is with me professionally on various Macs since 2013 in use. This one is apparently just as well. On an iMac Retina 5k I use -Also beruflich- the Asus SBW-06D2X-U. Whose only recognizable benefit me so far: Being able to stand it upright. Both devices that get power from USB, have no power supply and weigh almost nothing. Both burn BluRays with 6x speed and DVDs at 8x. Higher burning speeds are not recommended in any case, therefore USB 2.0 is also not at a disadvantage compared to USB 3.0.
