The decision came to me because my previous, very positive experience with the Canon EF 70-200mm 1: 2.8 L IS II USM lens (77mm filter thread) as well as some very critical and negative field reports regarding the Tamron, not easy.. Decisive for me were ultimately but the price difference of + 1,000.00, a lack of image stabilization at Canon, the 5-year warranty from Tamron (If even the manufacturer is convinced of its own products, ...), my own so far quite positive experiences with Tamron zoom lenses and, ultimately, the option that Tamron after a test phase, to be able to return again.
After about 14 days the lens has left with the serial number 046xxx with me a positive, albeit so far (yet) outstanding impression - the last kick is still missing! But that is certainly a question of scale and set the expectations.
The lens feels and sums up well to (feel), works very solid, sturdy and made of high quality and sits at the camera like a glove, without the wobbles or rattles a bit. What about the material (plastic) should be suspended, as occasionally to read, is not comprehensible for me. The zoom ring is used to from his arrangement ago, but works smoothly with slight resistance, but to produce a scraping noise without (excessively loud). The Image Stabilizer operates when switched on, soft (but not annoying) perceptible. Sensitized by (many) reports to incorrect focusing (front / back focus), as well as a defective diaphragm function of the lens (at least with older versions), I have during my testing phase, thrown on these functions, special attention. After several (in-house ") tests, I could Allerding, in my copy, detect or measure not malfunctions. However, I would not want to rule out that a professional, upon close inspection, will find it.
After about 800 photos, which two days, with very different lighting conditions (cold winter days | sunshine | gray overcast and hazy with rain) were taken, I'm still not entirely conclusive, regarding my own estimate of what the quality. the image results are concerned. Ultimately, the entire range is (high contrast and sharp to dull and blurred), represented with relatively little waste. I must add that I tend to photograph subjects that photographically represent a great challenge to me but this is lacking in many areas, the relevant knowledge and experience in the implementation, however.
